The India stones are made from aluminium oxide particles and are favoured by many woodworkers as they do not cut agressively and allow the forming of a sharp, precise edge. Once established, the sharp edge can be further honed and polished to a razor sharp edge by using the corresponding hard translucent Arkansas stone. As these files are produced from hard compounds they will hold their shape through years of use, unlike softer stones, and this results in more accurate profile sharpening.
