The No.1 complaint with using a plunge router in the router table is the inability to raise the collet high enough to easily remove and install cutters. Access to the spindle lock button and collet nut are severly restricted when mounted in a table. Lack of collet height also limits most 1/4" and 1/2" shank cutters from being inserted far enough into the collet to work safely and prevent possible shank failure. The only way to extend the reach of these collets is to use an extension. Dynamically balanced and machined from fatigue proof steel, the Xtreme Xtension fits into any 1/2" collet and extends the cutters 1 1/4". The single tools cutter changing eliminates searching for and holding the spindle lock while securing the collet with a wrench. The extensions 1" deep bore provides support for even the shortest shank cutters. Use the included 1/4"x1/2" reduction sleeve to safely support your 1/4" shank cutters.

This is a little more expensive than (some of) it's rivals, but on closer inspection the quality is spot on. The extra reach from under the table (1 1/4" or so) is ample. Best of all though is the hex key bit change, which is worth the price alone. Did take a few attempts to set straight in my collet, but instructions state this.

Outstanding quality product. bit changes are as quick and as trouble free as you like. Balance is fantastic, grip is excellent, much better than my slotted collet for holding long reach cutters. A quarter turn of the hex key to remove and the same for a solid secure fit

While slightly awkward to set up your cutter totally centrally (the act of tightening the key seems to throw the bit slightly off centre), once you have read the instructions properly, understood the settings and set the cutter up right, this is a MAGIC piece of kit!! So easy to change cutters, which run beautifully smoothly (both 1/2 and 1/4 in shanks) it has transformed a day's efforts on the router table from a real hassle to a joy. BUY ONE!
