Japanese tools offer a perfect combination of function and balance and this felling axe is no exception. The head made from SK5 steel, a high carbon steel that has superior edge holding properties and excellent abrasion resistance. This translates to the user as a good, sharp edge that will not dull or chip easily; exactly what is needed when felling trees and large shrubs. Hand forged by a Japanese master blacksmith, the axe head is perfectly ground to a sharp acute bevel and honed to give a clean, efficient cut with every swing. The long handle allows you to make the most of every swing, giving the head the momentum it needs to bite deeply into the wood. This handle is produced from Japanese white oak, a wood perfect for handles as it is strong, dense and capable of withstanding and absorbing the shocks associated with chopping and felling. This is a marvellous axe in use; unassuming in its design but determined and purposeful. Overall length 900mm and weight 1.5kg. Made in Japan. ©
