This is a truly exceptional axe and one that will cut tirelessly and require only occasional sharpening. This is due to the materials and techniques used in making the axe head. Unlike any other axe head where the head is forged from a single piece of iron or steel, this axe head is forged from malleable iron but features a white paper steel core that forms the cutting edge. White paper steel is a highly prized material for cutting tools. Made from a very pure iron ore with nothing but carbon added to it, white paper steel has a very fine grain structure will harden to a degree far higher than most other steels. This results in a very sharp cutting edge that, although it takes longer to sharpen, lasts far longer than those on ordinary, softer steels. The white paper steel benefits from its outer layer of malleable iron as it protects it from damage and acts like a shock absorber, absorbing the knocks and impacts that could crack or chip the very hard steel. Hand forged by a Japanese master blacksmith, the head is created to be perfectly balanced in use and features a fine, acutely bevelled and ultra sharp cutting edge. The head is mounted on a Japanese white oak handle. White oak is a particular favourite for tool handles as it is a slow growing, straight grained, dense hardwood making it strong and durable.
