Used for the removal of larger branches and limbs from trees, this branch hatchet combines a 400g head with a 420mm handle giving plenty of momentum from each swing to make deep, effective cuts. The hand forged head has a central core of blue paper steel that forms the cutting edge of the blade. Blue paper steel is made from a very pure iron ore with carbon, tungsten and chromium added to make the steel tough, durable and hard. The steel has a fine structure to it and this allows it to take a fine, razor like edge. For added support and strength to the head, a thick layer of softer, tougher iron is forge welded on to either side. This protects the blue paper steel from shocks and impacts that could otherwise cause it to crack or chip. The handle is made from Japanese white oak which is ideal for axes and hatchets. The slow growing timber has a straight grain and dense, strong structure making it very hard wearing. This hatchet is an essential tool for anyone who has trees and large shrubs to maintain.
