The angle of the neck means that the heart shaped head sits perfectly horizontal and simply by lifting or lowering the handle the blade cuts into the soil to remove weeds from below the surface. Used in push mode the blade is sharp so that it will cleanly slice through roots making it ideal for hoe work between delicate seedlings and plants in flower beds or vegatable gardens.
