In Japan, this gardening tool is known as a hori-hori knife. Hori means dig and although digging is not the first thing you would do with a knife, when you use a hor-hori knife, the reason for the name becomes apparent. More like a knife shaped multi tool, this knife will replace several different tools in your gardening arsenal. The hand forged high carbon steel blade is much thicker than that of an ordinary cutting knife and with the gentle side to side curve of the blade the knife makes an ideal replacement for a trowel. Its shape makes it perfect for digging and scooping. Serrated down one side, the knife may also be used for cutting root balls and trimming root systems when transplanting and repotting plants. The blade features a sharp point allowing it to penetrate deep into even very hard or compacted soil with ease. Graduations along the blade show how deep down you have dug; extremely useful when digging around and underneath root systems as you can gauge how far you need to dig without causing damage to the plant. The Japanese white oak handle is contoured for a comfortable yet secure grip even with gardening gloves. This is a wonderful tool and once you use it, it will be the first tool you reach for everytime. The blade measures 170mm in length and the knife has an overall length of 230mm. Comes supplied in a soft leather sheath. ©
