These new butt chisels from MHG are the finest we have tested. Butt chisels offer the professional carpenter greater accuracy in their work and these are no exception. Having shorter blades, these chisels will not wander once positioned offering a more precise cut than their longer counterparts and are ideal for those detailed chiselling jobs where accuracy is key. Made entirely in Germany from premium quality German chrome vanadium steel, these butt chisels are tempered and hardened to Rc-61 along the entire length of their blades. Chrome vanadium steel is highly resistant to metal fatigue which can effect other tool steels. Unlike cheaper brands of chisel, MHG butt chisels are capable of retaining a razor sharp edge for their entire life. Each blade is mirror polished and hand sharpened before leaving the factory. The handles are turned from solid ash, a wood perfect for tool handles due to its straight grain and its durability, and have an oiled finish giving a better grip than lacquered handles. A thick steel ferrule offers greater support to the blade within the handles. Protecting the tops of the handles are deep steel reinforcing bands to prevent the handle from splitting or spreading when struck with a mallet. These premium quality butt chisels are perfectly balanced in the hand and worthy of any professional crafts man. Made entirely in Germany from the highest quality materials, MHG chisels come from the centuries old traditions of fine tool making but are produced using the very latest forging and hardening processes. This gives a chisel that is extremely efficient and incredibly reliable. The blades are premium quality German chrome vanadium; a metal that has a much higher resistance to metal fatigue than other tool steels and is perfect for tools that are designed to be struck with a mallet. Each blade is tempered and hardened to RC-61 along its entire length, giving a blade that will take and hold a razor sharp edge as well at the end of its working life as it did when new. The handles are made from slow growing European hardwoods selected for their straight grain and strength. Supported by a steel band, the handles will not spread or split in use and offer exceptional support to the deep seated tangs. Precision ground and sharpened before they leave the factory, MHG chisels are built for hard work and perform flawlessly.

Once you get over the initial temptation to just sit and look at these beautiful chisels and finally get down to using them you will be blown away. After a quick tickle with a waterstone to perfect the already honed edges these butt chisels were slicing through maple with very little effort. These were my first MHG chisels and I've now ordered some full sized ones. Awesome!
