Kataba Master Mini - 60mm

Description | Customer reviews | Delivery

Hand made by a genuine Japanese master saw maker, this mini kataba is certain to be a favourite amongst furniture and cabinet makers. Its thin blade combined with the lack of reinforcement along its back makes this the saw of choice for producing fine, deep cross cuts in both hardwoods and softwoods. This blade features triple bevel edged teeth that slice through the fibres of the wood rather than tear at them leaving you with a smooth mirror like finish to your work. The blade is tapered along its length getting thinner towards the handle reducing the risk of binding when making deep cuts and keeping friction to a minimum. This saw cuts on the pull stroke and offers a cleaner, faster, more precise cut than a push cutting saw.Individually hardened teeth have very hard, sharp edges for smooth razor cutting and amazing durability while the rest of the tooth remains softer and more flexible. This ensures the tooth will absorb any shock from hitting knots and other dense areas of wood without breaking off. The blade is hammered by hand along its entire length to relieve any residual stresses in the metal preventing it from warping over time. This hammering process also straightens the blade resulting in a perfectly straight cut. Hand hammering is more effective than machine hammering as every blade is different and this process is more accurate when carried out by hand. The handle is made from solid magnolia wood wrapped in rattan which gives a very comfortable, secure grip. The longer handle balances perfectly with the blade which improves cutting action and reduces user fatigue. This is an extremely useful small saw and an ideal choice for fine, detailed work. This collection of Japanese handsaws are, quite simply, some of the finest saws you could ever possibly own. Crafted from the very finest materials, these saws are hand made by a highly respected Japanese master saw maker who has spent years learning and honing his skills. What makes these saws superior to machine made saws is their performance and this is all due to design features incorporated in to the saw during manufacture. Look closely at the saw blade and you will see that it tapers from the front to the back. As the front is thicker than the back, there is little chance of the saw binding in the wood during cutting. Each tooth is individually hardened at the edges only allowing the softer inner core of the tooth to remain soft and allowing the tooth to withstand the shock of hitting a knot or dense area of wood without breaking off. The blades are hand hammered along their entire length relieving stress and making the blade perfectly straight. All of these factors combine to produce a saw that is exceptionally sharp and stays sharp and will give an ultra fine cut with glass smooth cut surfaces irrespective of the wood being cut.
