Offering two saws in one body, the Ryoba has cross cutting teeth on one side and rip cutting teeth on the other. As the blade is double edged, there is no restriction in how deep the saw can cut and makes it an ideal general carpentry saw. Hand made by a Japanese master saw maker, this ryoba saw has a blade that tapers from front to back to reduce friction during cutting and to lower the risk of binding. The blade also tapers from the cutting edges to the middle. This keeps the weight of the blade low and also further reduces the risk of binding. The cross cut teeth are triple bevel edged to slice rather than tear through the wood and the ripping teeth cut by planing through the wood giving a fine, smooth, mirror like finish on both hardwoods and softwoods. The teeth are individually hardened, set and sharpened meaning the saw is razor sharp and will remain so for a very long time. The hardening process hardens the edges of the teeth only leaving the centre of the tooth softer. This prevents the tooth from breaking off should it encounter a hard knot, nail or dense patch of wood. For greater accuracy, the blade is hand hammered along its entire length to relieve any residual stresses in the metal which would otherwise cause it to warp. This hammering also ensures that the blade is flat for precise, straight cuts. The Japanese magnolia wood handle is wrapped in rattan and affords the user a comfortable, firm grip and is in perfect balance with the blade. This ryoba is an ideal choice for the discerning woodworker who appreciates both premium quality tools and excellent value. Made in Japan. ©
This collection of Japanese handsaws are, quite simply, some of the finest saws you could ever possibly own. Crafted from the very finest materials, these saws are hand made by a highly respected Japanese master saw maker who has spent years learning and honing his skills. What makes these saws superior to machine made saws is their performance and this is all due to design features incorporated in to the saw during manufacture. Look closely at the saw blade and you will see that it tapers from the front to the back. As the front is thicker than the back, there is little chance of the saw binding in the wood during cutting. Each tooth is individually hardened at the edges only allowing the softer inner core of the tooth to remain soft and allowing the tooth to withstand the shock of hitting a knot or dense area of wood without breaking off. The blades are hand hammered along their entire length relieving stress and making the blade perfectly straight. All of these factors combine to produce a saw that is exceptionally sharp and stays sharp and will give an ultra fine cut with glass smooth cut surfaces irrespective of the wood being cut.
