Ryoba Master Mini - 130mm

Description | Customer reviews | Delivery

With its two cutting edges, this mini ryoba is an excellent general purpose saw for the fine cutting of hardwoods and softwoods. Featuring a rip cutting blade on one edge and a cross cutting edge on the other, this saw will handle any cutting task you ask of it. The 130mm blade tapers from the edge to the middle and back out to the edge again and this hollowing reduces friction and eliminates the risk of the saw binding when making deep cuts. This saw is hand made by a highly respected Japanese master saw maker, who has spent decades learning and practicing his craft. Being hand made, this saw benefits from an attention to detail not often seen in machine made saws. The teeth are individually sharpened, hardened and set. The special hardening process ensures that only the cutting edges of the teeth are hardened leaving the middle of the tooth soft and relatively flexible. This softness means that should the tooth impact something hard during cutting, there is less chance of it breaking off or cracking as the jolt is absorbed by the flexible inner of the tooth. The saw is hammered, by hand, along its entire length to relieve any residual stresses in the metal that would otherwise cause it to warp over time. By carrying out this process by hand rather than machine, you get a much more accurate result and the blade will give a perfect, straight cut every time you use it throughout its long working life. The teeth on this saw cut on the pull stroke keeping the thin blade in tension through tthe cut. This gives a finer, straighter and, ultimately more precise result. The cross cut teeth are triple bevel edged to slice through the wood fibres rather than tear at them and the ripping teeth have flat, sharp edges on them to plane through the wood rather than split it. Either cutting edge will leave a smooth, glossy finish to the cut. Made from Japanese magnolia wood, the handle is wrappen in rattan to give you a firm yet comfortable grip. The size and length of the handle balances perfectly with the blade for fatigue free cutting even with all day use. Made in Japan. ©

This collection of Japanese handsaws are, quite simply, some of the finest saws you could ever possibly own. Crafted from the very finest materials, these saws are hand made by a highly respected Japanese master saw maker who has spent years learning and honing his skills. What makes these saws superior to machine made saws is their performance and this is all due to design features incorporated in to the saw during manufacture. Look closely at the saw blade and you will see that it tapers from the front to the back. As the front is thicker than the back, there is little chance of the saw binding in the wood during cutting. Each tooth is individually hardened at the edges only allowing the softer inner core of the tooth to remain soft and allowing the tooth to withstand the shock of hitting a knot or dense area of wood without breaking off. The blades are hand hammered along their entire length relieving stress and making the blade perfectly straight. All of these factors combine to produce a saw that is exceptionally sharp and stays sharp and will give an ultra fine cut with glass smooth cut surfaces irrespective of the wood being cut.
