There are many things that separate this block plane from others. The first is that it has a 1/8” thick by 1-5/8” wide blade made from A2 tool steel. The second outstanding feature of the plane is the combined feed screw and lateral adjust. It is both more sensitive and more accurate than any other adjustment mechanism. With a 12 degree bed angle and 25 degree bevel angle, the plane excels at working end grain. It has the adjustable mouthpiece and compact size of other low-angle block planes. The 150mm long by 51mm wide body is made from ductile iron. The accurately milled sides and sole are surface ground to a high degree of finish. Supplied without ball tail and front knobs. ©

When Veritas created their range of woodworking planes they put the emphasis firmly on performance rather than cost. I was going to buy a stanley block plane, but decided to spend the dosh and get a better quality one, and what a desicion to make! Absolutely brilliant plane, heavy, comfortable and with an excellent adjustment mechanism. I'm after a higher angle blade and also the knob and tail for it. Easily the best plane I've ever used, you won't be disappointed.

Great. I use mine with just the ball tail which fits snuggly in my palm. This plane eats end grain and does an excellant job all round. It feels like quality when you handle it, takes an edge easily and retains that edge. I haven't yet dinged the edge but it will happen as I'm a working carpenter and this plane goes where i go. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, there may be more expensive planes knocking about but I can't imagine they are too much of an improvement. This is a plane made to be used not looked at.

I have 3 Veritas block planes (low angle, standard angle and apron); they are a beautiful tool, precisely engineered and a joy to use. Everything about these planes (proper aduster mechanism, blade centering set screws, lock down lever cap etc) is so well thought out and functions great, just like it should, straight out of the box. Top tools.
