A true Jack-of-all-trades, this No 5 Jack plane will perform trimming, smoothing and flattening tasks accurately and effortlessly. Cast from steel, the plane body is fully stress relieved to ensure this plane remains true and warp free throughout its entire working life. This plane features a newly updated body casting that makes the plane incredibly positive in use. Other major modifications are in the lateral adjustment lever design, a large diameter knob on the blade adjuster and a change in shape to the rear handle that improves ergonomics. The sole and wings are ground to exacting tolerances for accurate flattening and smoothing. The bedrock style frog and plane body are precision machined for a perfect fit which gives the plane a solid feel and results in a smooth cut with less tear out especially when working highly figured timbers. The mouth of the plane is easily adjusted using the knurled brass adjustment knob. Measuring 51mm wide, the blade features a 25º bevel and is seated at 45º. Made from high carbon steel, the blade is tempered and hardened to Rc 60-64 making it capable of taking and holding a fine, razor like edge. The thick stainless steel cap iron offers extra support to the 3mm thick blade giving a clean chatter free performance. The precision ground chip breaker ensures full blade contact which results in very consistent shavings. The handles are premium quality bubinga and feature a satin finish. This plane measures 350mm long and weighs 2.66kg. ©

The quality of this plane is outstanding for the price. I bought it for my apprentice thinking it would be a good plane for him to practice tuning up and using. The only thing that needed doing out of the box was a quick hone of the blade. The sole was flat and the wings were square. I was so impressed, I've since bought myself one and one of the block planes too.

When I opened the box I had a pleasant surprise. The plane looks MUCH better than in the pictures of this site!
Handles are made of bubinga with a very nice satin finish, not too "heavy".
The blade and chipbreaker are amazingly thick, the overall finish is good, maybe not Veritas-like, but sure nicer than in the pictures.
The sole needed a little flattening to be perfect while the blade was flat, a bit rough, but it is within the process of sharpening in any case.
I honed it at 30° plus a microbevel (optimal for A2 blades like this is), it produces an incredibly smooth surface.
The frog sits well on the body and the blade on the frog... excellent machining and the Bedrock is a joy over the normal construction since it allows setting the blade when still mounted and gives a better support for the blade.
An excellent piece of tool at a bargaign price, highly recommended.
