Specially designed for shallow mortise cuts such as hinge mortices and lock plates, this inletting plane has an extra long aperture for an unrestricted view of the cut. By offering this clear view, the plane allows the cut to be taken very precisely between two points. The 16mm wide blade is bedded into a groove and held firm with a wooden wedge ensuring that it is square with the sole at all times. For an ultra clean edged mortise, it is recommended that the area to be removed is scribed first before cutting. After each pass of the plane, the blade is lowered for a deeper cut. This plane can also be used for blind nailing. Simply raise, do not remove, a shaving around 3/4" in length, hammer in the nail and glue the attached shaving back into place. This 9 1/2" plane is constructed from solid beech with a hornbeam sole. ©
