The Veritas scraping plane is the ideal tool for final smoothing of highly figured wood or reversing grain. With a well-sharpened blade and light cuts excellent results can be acheived on any wood. The generous wooden front knob and rear handle make it comfortable to use for extended periods and the large sole ensures an accurately flattened surface. The adjustable frog enables blade angles from 0° to 25°, providing fine control of the cutting action. An integral thumbscrew bows the blade to eliminate ridges in the work surface caused by blade corners. The plane comes with a 1.4mm high-carbon steel blade that is thick enough to scrape without chatter but is flexible enough to bend under the pressure of the thumbscrew. The blade measures 73mm wide, hardened to Rc48-51, and comes with the cutting edges ground at 45°. The 241mm ductile cast iron body has been fully stress relieved, machined, and surface ground on the sole. Weight is 1.81kg. ©
When Veritas created their range of woodworking planes they put the emphasis firmly on performance rather than cost. The result is a range of hand planes that are easy to set up and use and give perfect cutting performances. Each plane has a fully stress relieved ductile iron body and a frog that extends all the way to the sole giving unparalled support to the blade for chatter free cutting. A2 steel blades are hard and will take a razor like edge. Finished with bubinga handles these fine planes are ideal additions to any woodworker's plane collection.

I cannot recommend these highly enough. If you like using hand tools, then the only way to smooth curly, wild and rowed grain is to use a scraper. These planes enable efficient scraping, whilst keeping the wood flat, and preclude the use of noisy, dusty sanding machines. If you have never used a scraper plane before, then you will wonder how you got along without one. Do persevere though, there is a knack to using one and sharpening the cutter. Well worth the effort once mastered.
