This excellent No 4 smoothing plane features a fully stress relieved steel body allowing it to remain true throughout its entire working life. Recently updated this plane features a newly modified body casting making it incredibly positive in use. Other developments to the plane are in the lateral adjustment lever design and the bearing fitted to it, a larger knob on the blade adjuster and a slight change in shape to the rear handle improving control. Precision machined to exacting tolerances ensures the sole of the plane is flat, the wings are square to the sole and there is a perfect fit between the plane body and frog. Measuring 51mm wide, the high carbon steel blade is tempered and hardened to Rc 60-64 meaning this blade will sharpen to and retain a razor sharp edge. The thick stainless steel cap iron supports the 3mm thick blade against the full length frog for less chatter and tear out especially when working highly figured timbers. The chip breaker is precision ground to give maximum contact with the blade. The handle and front knob are made from premium quality bubinga which is satin lacquer finished for a better grip. This smoothing plane measures 250mm in length and weighs 2.17kg. ©
10 Year Guarantee - The 10 year guarantee on the plane means that it will be free of any manufacturing defects. If a customer finds any manufacturing related defect, either the product or faulty component will be replaced free of charge.

This is a beautiful smoothing plane. The castings are perfect and the bubinga handles set the plane off perfectly. There is not chatter and this plane produces fine translucent shavings.

When I opened the box I had a pleasant surprise. The plane looks MUCH better than in the pictures of this site!
Handles are made of bubinga with a very nice satin finish, not too "heavy".
The blade and chipbreaker are amazingly thick, the overall finish is good, maybe not Veritas-like, but sure nicer than in the pictures.
The sole needed a little flattening to be perfect while the blade was flat, a bit rough, but it is within the process of sharpening in any case.
I honed it at 30° plus a microbevel (optimal for A2 blades like this is), it produces an incredibly smooth surface.
The frog sits well on the body and the blade on the frog... excellent machining and the Bedrock is a joy over the normal construction since it allows setting the blade when still mounted and gives a better support for the blade.
An excellent piece of tool at a bargaign price, highly recommended.
