This breath-taking gentleman's knife is a genuine work of art. From the highly skilled blacksmith who created the blade to the talented artisan who hand chased the decoration, every component of this knife has been made by master craftsmen and artists. Not just an item to treasure for its looks, this knife is crafted from the very finest materials giving you reliability and flawless performance in use. The blade of the gentleman's knife is shorter and broader than those of the traditional Laguiole knives and this makes it a good choice for heavier cutting tasks around the home and garden. Hand forged from 12C27 Swedish stainless steel, a steel which is specially developed for knives as it will hone to a razor edge, is hard and also hardwearing as it does not blunt easily. The blade is made up of 160 layers of steel, forge welded together to give a stunning twist style Damascus pattern and is hand ground and honed to give and exceptionally fine, sharp edge. A smooth operating blade locking mechanism keeps the blade locked in position when in use and is easy to disengage after use. The spring and catch of the mechanism are forged in a single piece rather than have the two components welded together as is found with inferior types of this knife. The single piece is much stronger as it does not have a weld which may fail over time. The catch is shaped like a bee. This is traditional for the Laguiole knives and dates back to Napoleonic times. The spring is hand decorated along its length. A hardened steel blade stop is built into the handle and this protects the blade edge when not in use. The solid steel bolsters give the handle strength and the cheeks of the knife are made from first quality walnut. The blade, bolsters, spring and catch all feature a fine, matt finish. Silver nickel pins hold the handle assembly in place and the handle is decorated with a shepherd's cross motif. Again, this is a tradition for the Laguiole knives and dates back to the time when shepherd's moved their flocks around from mountains to plains and could not always get to church to pray. The cross on their pocket knives would allow them to pray where ever they were. This is a wonderful knife steeped in history and tradition and is a worthy addition to any enthusiast's collection. Supplied with a premium quality leather pouch and numbered certificate of authenticity and guarantee. Made in France. ©
The company making these knives has been producing some of France’s finest cutlery since the early 1920s. Based in Thiers, which is the French equivalent of Sheffield in England or Solingen in Germany, the manufacturer is situated at the very heart France’s cutlery manufacturing centre. Using only the very finest materials to create their knives, each knife blade is forged from premium Swedish stainless steel and feature native and exotic hardwoods and well as buffalo horn for their handles. Rather than a brand name, the Laguiole is a style of knife that originated in the French village that bears the same name. Easily recognisable by its characteristic slender blade and slim handle, the Laguiole knife is elegant in its form but is reliable and practical in its use. All knives are supplied with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Made in France.
