A modern twist on the traditional style of Laguiole knife, this sport version has a thicker, longer blade making it ideal for heavier duty cutting tasks and a perfect choice for use outdoors. The 3.5mm thick blade is hand forged from Swedish 12C27 stainless steel. This steel has been developed over many years specifically for use in the manufacture of knives. It will hone to a razor like edge, it is hard without being brittle and tough without being too soft and will also resist blunting and will not rust. The blade folds away when not in use and when folded out, a spring and catch keeps the blade in its fully extended position. This spring and catch are forged from steel in a single piece thus preventing any of the weaknesses associated with the welding found on lower cost Laguiole style knives. The catch is shaped like a bee, a tradition for this type of knife and one which dates back to Napoleonic times. The bee catch and spring are hand chased and decorated by skilled artisans. Wooden cheeks flank either side of the handle and are made from first quality walnut gun stock. The bolsters, blade, spring and catch have a smooth, matt finish. A hardened steel blade stop protects the sharp blade edge when the knife is closed. The handle assembly is fixed with silver nickel pins and features a shepherd's cross motif. This knife is supplied with a handcrafted pouch made from premium quality leather and also comes with a sharpening steel. A numbered certificate of authenticity and guarantee is also included. Based in Thiers, which is the French equivalent of Sheffield in England or Solingen in Germany, the manufacturer is situated at the very heart France’s cutlery manufacturing centre.
