This has to be the ultimate in hunting knives and certainly the one we would not be without in the field. The blade, made up from layer upon layer of stainless steel in the best tradition of the Samurai, has an innate strength and durability that is desirable in such a knife. Hand forged in Japan by a master blacksmith who spent many years learning his trade in Takefu, the knife making capital of Japan, this knife has a Cowry X steel core. A recently developed steel, Cowry X has an exceptionally high carbon and chrome content. This makes the steel unbelievably hard and resilient to rusting whilst capable of taking a very fine, ultra sharp edge. It is no surprise then that this knife blade is hardened to Rc-66 making it harder than almost any other hunting knife on the market. This means the knife will hold a sharp edge for longer and will always be ready for service when you need it. Either side of this steel core are a further 32 layers of nickel stainless steel giving a total layer count of 65. These extra layers of stainless steel are slightly softer than the core and give support to it, absorbing shocks that may otherwise damage it. During the forging and grinding processes, the layers of steel are exposed to give the characteristic suminagashi or Damascus effect. As the blades are hand made, no two blades have the same patterning making each knife unique. The blade and thick tang are forged as a single piece giving the knife an innate strength. This tang runs the entire length of the handle. The handle is made from desert ironwood, a strong, very dense hardwood with an attractive grain pattern. Desert ironwood is resilient to water and the elements and will withstand hard and heavy use. Contoured for a comfortable grip, the handle features a hanging loop and is decorated by mosaic style, rose shaped pins. The supplied sheath is hand made from premium quality leather and has an integral belt loop allowing the knife to sit at your side ready for use when you need it.
