This has to be the essential hunter's knife and the one you would want by your side when out in the wilderness trekking or camping. It can do anything you ask of it from cutting and shaping branches when making a shelter to skinning and preparing game. Its 180mm blade is long enough to handle large tasks but is not so long as to be impractical to carry. The blade has a white paper steel core which forms the cutting edge of the knife. White paper steel is a carbon steel made from a very high purity iron ore and carbon with nothing else added to it. This steel will harden to a higher degree than most other steels and this allows it to take a very fine, sharp, razor like edge. As this steel is so hard, it will not dull easily meaning it requires less frequent sharpening and will complete many, many task before it shows signs of needing to be honed. To give support and extra strength to the core, layers of softer iron are forge welded on either side. This blade has five layers of iron at each side giving the total layer count of 11 for the blade and is hand finished with the signature of the maker. The blade and tang are forged as a single piece to give an inner strength and balance to the knife. A hand forged bolster holds the blade and handle together firmly and an integral finger guard prevents fingers slipping on to the blade during heavy use. The handle is crafted from a piece of solid oak which has been given a blackened finish and a ray skin grip. Ray skin is an exceptionally tough leather that is hardwearing and slightly abrasive. This abrasive quality offers the user an unparalleled non slip grip even in the very wettest of conditions and in extreme environments. The handle is also bound, top and bottom, with rattan. This is an exceptional outdoor knife and comes supplied with a magnolia wood sheath that can be belt mounted if required. Made in Japan. ©
