Pen turning requires many different tools and it can be difficult to work out which of the many tools available you should actually buy. Now there is no need to worry as these kits include everything you require, except the glue, to start making beautiful pens. Available with a choice of 1MT or 2MT pen mandrel, if purchased separately the contents would cost in excess of 139 pounds making these pen making sets exceptional value for money. Supplied with five wooden pen blanks and five slimline twist pen kits, these sets also include 7mm drill bit, pen tube insertion tool and a milling tool for trimming and squaring ends. We even include a block of wax for that perfect, durable finish. These sets are completed with three turning tools a 3/8" gouge for turning square blanks to round, a 1/2" oval skew chisel for fine, accurate finishing cuts and a 1/8" parting tool. All three tools are specially sized for pen turning and feature solid ash handles and premium grade high speed steel blades. Being a newbie woodturner, I've been on the lookout for something like this. This pen making kit has everything you need to start turning pens without being overly complicated. I completed all five pens with relative ease (all of which were commandeered by family and friends) and have since bought other pen kits to make.

I've been turning for 10 years now but had never tried pen making. This kit does contain everything you need to start pen turning with the exception of glue. The 7mm mandrel is easy to set up and I would recommend using a live centre in the tailstock to support rather than a dead centre. The 3 tools provided are a good size for the job and the skew chisel puts a lovely smooth finish on the pen. The wax stick gives a light sheen to the finished pen. As for the glue, get a medium consistency cyanoacrylate and you're pretty much sorted. I especially like the case as it keeps everything safe and together.
