Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. A rebate plane is used for cleaning up dadoes, grooves and rabbets for a perfect fit with the adjoining workpiece.
Side Rebate Plane
This side rebate plane has an adjustable depth stop that can be reversed for right or left handed use. The plane can be used in slots as narrow as 5mm and as deep as 15mm. The nose can be removed allowing the plane to cut right into corners. The two independently adjustable blades are 10mm wide with a 30° skew, they have a 20° bevelled blade are seated at 12° within the plane, giving an effective angle of 37° for end grain work. The plane has an overall length of 110mm and weighs 450g.
Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features an unbreakable CR40 steel casting which is precision machined to ensure the sole is perfectly flat. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The blade is held in position by a large stainless steel cap iron secured with a thumbscrew. The handle is made from solid bubinga wood which provides a firm and comfortable grip. ©
