FULL DESCRIPTION
This kit is designed for cutting both external and internal threads in wood. It is commonly used for producing homemade vices, clamps and jigs, childrens toys and furniture. The kit contains a screw box for cutting the male thread and a matching wood tap with tommy bar for producing the female thread.

The thread box is made from hardwood and features two comfortable handles for easy exertion of pressure when cutting the threads. To create an external thread you simply clamp a piece of 19mm dowel in a vice, place the thread box over the dowel and gently rotate. The inner steel cutting tool then shaves the thread on the dowel. There is a wear resistant aluminium bushing for accurate dowel guidance and a hole in the side of the thread box to ensure there is no clogging and to give visibility of the cutting process.

To create a matching internal thread you pre drill a 16mm pilot hole in your timber, then insert the supplied steel tap and rotate by hand using the tommy bar. The tap creates a clean accurate internal thread which is perfect for the corresponding male thread. The resulting threads are both strong and tight fitting. ©

Better Than Expected

I have made a banana hanger, some toys and a handle that can swap a spoon head to a honey drizzler and this little chap has made it possible to make them without a single screw, nail or bolt. It is a shame that it can't be adjusted to bigger or small sizes but it works very well and makes defined threads. I recommend.

I was really surprised at how easy it was to cut long, very crisp threads in some 19mm walnut dowel. A little lubricant (I used some finishing oil) and the thread box performed brilliantly. No problems at all with the tommy-bar driven tap either - it stayed in line even going through some relatively thin stock. My only issue is that the provided instruction sheet gives a drill size chart in imperial for the 5 sizes of kit. This one, the 3/4" kit, needs 19mm dowel and a 16mm drill (as stated in the online description). I'm so impressed I would be very interested in one of the larger sized kits if Rutland ever stock them.

Extremely surprised at the effectiveness of the screw threader. Thread cuts are of very high quality. Not only does if look good but gives finish and screw action very smooth. Purchased two wooden pizza paddles, and pizza oven wire brush. All came without screw in wooden handles. I have made 3 screw in dowel handed for under £4.00. Suppliers in Italy wanted £70 for 3 handles. Rutland have done it again brilliant

Great bit of kit, have used it to make several toys for my grandson, he loves to play with the wooden bolts that I have made. Gives well defined threads both internally and externally. I have used a battery drill to tap the holes instead of the supplied bar. Very pleased.
