165mm Plunge Cut Saw with 1400mm Guide Rail

Rutlands    Part No. XT3516

• Comes with 2 x extra wide, non slip guide rails
• Guide rails fitted with rubber splinter guard for improved finish
• 57mm depth of cut when used with the rail
• Eccentric adjustment screws to remove play between rail and saw base
• Can be used as a plunge saw, rail saw or circular saw
• Excellent build quality

This premium performance saw can be used as a plunge, track or standard circular saw. The saw is powered by a 1400 watt high torque motor rotating at a speed of 5200rpm.

Two 700mm rails are supplied along with 300mm track connectors and rail clamps. The rails are ribbed for strength and measure 190mm in width resulting in improved stability and accuracy. Each rail features two 25mm wide full length rubber strips that protect the workpiece and increase friction to prevent movement. A third rubber strip on the edge of the rail acts as a splinter guard to further improve the finished cut. There are two eccentric screws on the saw that reduce any play when connecting the guide rail to the saw. When used with the guide rail the 165mm diameter TCT blade allows you to cut 52mm at 90 degrees and 37mm at 45 degrees. Removing the rail increases the cut depth by approximately 5mm.

The plunge mechanism is extremely smooth and incorporates a dual height depth stop. Once positioned the depth can be locked off and the saw can be moved through the workpiece at a consistent cutting height. The tilt action is operated by two large knobs either side of the blade and the scale allows you to set the angle to 1 degree increments. The body and base of the saw are made for precision die castings which again are ribbed for strength and resultant accuracy.

Supplied with 2 x 700mm guide rails, rail connectors, rail clamps and a blade lock. This is an excellent fine finish plunge cut saw that we can highly recommend for sawing composite sheets, trimming kitchen and cabinet doors, sawing skirting and architrave and all other general sawing operations.

Why 3 stars? Well if Festool represents the best and 5 stars then this isn't a 4 star product. But it is great value for money and does do an excellent job. Unfortunately mine had a slight problem that required dismantling and adjustment. The saw has a great feature that allows you to flip up a locking device and a pin then locates in a sprung holder to allow blade changing. MIne was binding meaning that after you plunged, the blade wouldn't retract all the way. I had to grind 3mm off the end of the pin and it works as expected now. Also Rutlands do not offer spare blades right now, there are 165mm x 20mm blades out there, but they won't fit because they are thinner than the standard blade. This can be rectified with a 20mm bore x 0.5mm washer or some more filing/grinding of the blade holder. I now have a 52 tooth TCT crosscut blade and the finish is amazing.

The best function of this saw is the adjustment dial that controls how the saw is held to the track. You can set the dial so that the saw slides back and forth with negligible side play. If you feel any play simply turn the dial and eliminate it. I am very pleased with its cutting performance and overall build quality.

I was impressed from the moment it arrived. Well balanced body, good strong rails and very well finished. The cutting performance is accurate. I had to rip 250mm from 12 sheets of MDF and it left clean smooth edges every time. Blade is relatively thin so the cutting resistance is minimal. I am delighted with my purchase and would recommend to any joiner. 2 year warranty gives peace of mind as well.

I did not know whether to invest in a Festool or try this saw. Decided I buy this one and if it was sub standard I'd use it as a first fix hand held saw. I am absolutely delighted. Very clean, straight sawing. I use a pair of Record 6" g clamps rather than the ones supplied as they are a bit flexible but apart from that a great tool. Not quite sure why I would buy a Festool as all I want to do is cut true to a line?

Fantastic plunge saw. Simple controls, quietist motor, very accurate after careful set-up. Really nice clean cuts in MDF. Was about to buy another brand GMC, until I saw that this was exactly the same saw. Well done Rutlands you saved me £60.
