The new 2017 year model has a new high torque and super quiet motor that maintains it's rotational speed under the heaviest of loads...
This sharpening system is taking America by storm by offering a new hassle free, jig free method of keeping all those tool edges razor sharp. Incorporating many new and innovative ideas, this is a dry sharpening system which features an air flow routed over the tool during sharpening to ensure the tool remains cool throughout the sharpening process.

At first glance, this looks like any other horizontal grinding system but look again and the similarities start to fade. Chisels, plane irons, carving and woodturning tools are presented to the underside of the grinding wheel using one of the two sharpening ports. The chisel and plane iron port accepts tools up to 2" wide and has a special tool rest which can be angled to suit bevel edges of 20, 25, 30 and 35.

These pre set angles and the consistently flat wheel means there is no need to use fiddly set up gauges to achieve that perfect, fully repeatable bevel. A special skew cam control ensures the squareness of the bevelled edge. This tool rest has an abrasive surface to remove the burr created during sharpening and an in built heat sink removes any heat build up in the tool.

Larger plane irons, blades and cabinet scrapers may be sharpened conventionally on top of the wheel using the on board, micro adjustable tool rest. Made from tempered safety glass, the 150mm grinding wheel requires no maintenance and accepts self adhesive abrasive discs so the wheel is always at the correct grade for your required task be it coarse for re-shaping or extremely fine for polishing.

Powered by a whisper quiet 1/5 hp induction motor, the grinding wheel rotates at a maximum speed of 580rpm. A second, slotted grinding wheel is included with the machine which, working in a similar way to a zoetrope, allows the user to see the chisel underneath when used in conjunction with the second sharpening port. This gives the user a view not offered by any other sharpening machine and lets them see the cutting edge as its being sharpened; ideal for the precise grinding of carving and turning gouges and other shaped tools up to 2" in width.

In use, it is easy to see why this machine has won so many awards including the AWFS Sequoia Award and the National Hardware Show's Retailers' Choice Award 2007. Fully CE certified, this machine features a special high torque motor specifically for the UK market. This special offer kit comes with WS3000 Worksharp Tool Sharpener and WS2780 Knife Sharpening System, complete with two tempered glass grinding wheels, one slotted grinding wheel, tool rest, abrasive disc cleaner and an abrasives pack. We believe that this truly unique system is the way forward for effective and efficient tool sharpening. 230V.

I was impressed by the DVD but the quality of the machine borders on precision engineering. I am well pleased with my purchase and the delivery was within the 24 hours stated - Not bad in the week before christmas - Well done. I'm very pleased GH

This is a follow up after a year or more. I still give it five stars and think it is wonderful. All my blades are sorted and just get a few seconds hone with a fine grit when I am using them. I don't bother with secondary bevels. It works well with cheap Chinese diamond discs which don't need replacing like the paper. If your chisel is gouged it is very fast at removing the metal, even on finer grits. I Hoover out the metal dust occasionally. I can't see it wearing out for an awful long time. It is dry and quiet.

Just used the unit for the first time and sharpened anything and everything with a blade on it within the vicinity of the house and workshop. Very simple to set up and the unit is really well made. It came with everything you need to get going and they include spare grits. There's a video in the kit which is to the point and helpful. The instructions are written in English and easy to follow so 10/10 to the manufacturer for that one. The motor runs fairly warm but it looks man enough for the job and it certainly didn't look or sound like it was labouring and I expect it will give years of service. This set up came with the knife attachment which is also easy to set up and use. I went throuh the knife drawer and I cant wait to attack the Sunday roast! The whole point of buying this unit was to have an easy to use system that's pretty much foolproof and I have to say it delivers in spades. Before settling for this machine I looked at all the other systems but having spent hours with wet stones, oil stones and jigs of varying compexity and quality I wanted something I could just use with the minimum of hassle that didn't leave the work bench looking like a badly drained swamp. This unit is the dogs doodars and worth a couple of hundred quid. Good service from Rutlands as well.

This is an excellent tool. It sharpens flat chisels quickly and with ease. I also used it to sharpen my shredder blades which are about 3" wide. They need just a few minutes easy work, compared to hours when sharpened by hand (well it feels like hours). Its a safe to use as well, since the abrasive discs are not very coarse and the glass discs spin relatively slowly. If you accidentally touch a spinning disk, not much will happen. During use it produces a small amount of metal dust that needs to vacuumed up at the end of the job. Take care when sticking the abrasive to the glass disks, and make sure nothing get trapped between the two. Any trapped grit/dirt/fluff will be felt when sharpening. Not so sure about the knife sharpening system. It works, but needs a bit more skill and feel to get an edge sharpened correctly.

This is an excellent sharpener robustly built but ideal for infrequent use without compromising quality of finish. It runs quietly, requires little set up and adjusts common grinding angles quickly and reliably. Two tips on the knife sharpening attachment. First mount the worksharp with knife attachment on an mdf board so it can be moved and be positioned to project from a bench. This gives clearance for the longest knife up to sabre size. Second when checking the tracking look at the tensioner end not the drive pulley. If the belt jumps over the guides it can damage them within seconds. The service I've had from Rutlands has been impressive. Perhaps they will now send me the leather honing wheel for assessment.

When I ordered the Work Sharp I wondered if I was merely adding yet another item to my collection of oil/water stones, Scheppach grinder and assorted diamond files that i have acquired over the years in a search for a foolproof sharpening method. They are all useable in their way and i am not as cack handed now as i used to be but sharpening has always been a chore. I think however, that the workSharp will change that. Not only is it a robust piece of kit, having watched a video on Youtube about its use and read the manual I set about giving it a go. I started with an old chisel that was out of square, pitted and so blunt you could ride bare arsed to Banbury on it. It didn't take long to return it to square, give it a keen edge, lap the back and create a useable chisel. Next up were 3 more chisels which were soon sharpened to a level I have not managed using other methods. Emboldened by my early successes I switched to the see through wheel and started on my set of carving chisels. i started with a fine grit on the basis that I didn't want to make too much of a mess as I practiced. Well, the results were impressive. Being able to see how a bevel is being sharpened and move the chisel to ensure an even edge was really helpful and it didn't take long to commission them. Next up will be my turning tools which need attention and, from being a chore sharpening is now a quick and relatively simple job. My advice to anyone thinking of getting a Worksharp would be to get an extra glass wheel and see through wheel so that you have a wider selection of grits to choose from. I will also get the honing wheel when Rutlands next have them in stock.

Bought this for schools technical department 18 months ago. After sharpening 180 chisels and 80 plane irons 3 times over i've still to buy new abrasives. This is a workhorse of a machine and well worth the money. Even takes tormek jig for sharpening turning gouges.

Despite paying a massive amount for '24' hour service. (£12+) this took 4 days to arrive. It was always going to take 4 days to get to me as I live in Orkney. this I accept but DON'T tell me it will be 24 hours and charge extra for '24 hour' service.

This is a really well thought out, robust, well built and designed machine. It is a powered and pretty fullproof way to achieve "scary sharp" for your chisel and plane irons. I have previously struggled with grinders, diamond stones, oil stones and honing guides, this makes them all redundant. I now have some very sharp and square chisels and planes with microbevels. The only problem is I am now looking for more things in my workshop to sharpen as this is such an intuitive, easy and effective tool. Buy it you will not regret it. The knife and scissor sharpener which it comes with is excellent too!

The machine arrived this morning and within 1 hour I had the machine setup and instruction manual briefly perused, I then had my 6 x Marples chisels sharpened from coarse to fine then to micro-fine. I am pleased with the results. I previously owned a Tormek T7 which I found messy (water everywhere)the chisels never seemed to be ground square and the finish was good but always slightly concave. I am much happier with this Worksharp system which for me who is not a professional and will only likely be used for chisel & plane blade sharpening will prove to be much more covenient.

£200.00 seemed like a lot of money to spend on a sharpening tool. But having read the many reviews and looked at the alternatives, I ordered my worksharp in January and have eagerly awaited its arrival. Its taken nearly 3 months to arrive, but its been worth the wait. It is a great concept, simple to use, easy to set up , quickly gets a razor sharp edge and no water involved. The results so far are outstanding, infact so good i might as well put my diamond sharpening stone in the bin .

It's safe, it creates minimal mess and doesn't overheat your tools - why would you possibly want to consider another sharpening system?! I'm not aware of any other system that'll allow you to safely flatten the backs of tools as well. The edge produced by the finer grits is better than anything I have previously achieved on a bench stone. I would like to have seen coarser grits supplied as standard as 120g isn't enough for heavy grinding on badly worn tools. Also, 01 and A2 steels will have a greater blunting effect on the abrasives than regular steel. Still, the results are always excellent and, despite it's toy-like appearance, it is a surprisingly robust and reliable piece of kit.

After seeing a demonstration of this machine on holiday in the USA earlier this year, I've been eagerly awaiting its arrival in the UK. I've only had this machine a couple of days but it has totally changed the way I sharpen my tools.

This machine is absoutely awesome. I have just retired as a carp & joiner after 51 yrs in the trade and have just bought this machine. How I wish I had it when I worked ,it is the dogs xxxxxxxx , It is so easy and dont be decieved by the size of the machine or the rpm.It really does what it says on the box, even to shaving the hairs off your arm. Buy it , it is amazing.. the only down side is the price but hey what price do you put on ecstacy !!

Although the reviews for this machine are very good, I was sceptical. However within an hour of opening the box and reading the instructions I had a full set of bevel edge chisels and block plane iron sharper than they were when new ! This machine really is good and razor edges are achievable if you follow the instructions. I don't know how I coped without this system- buy with confidence you'll be impressed.

I'm a long-term DIY-type person, now retired and getting more interested in serious woodworking. For 30-years I've limped along with a small collection of battered old chisels and a couple of bench planes. Occasional attempts at sharpening on an oil stone have proved time consuming and unsuccessful. So I decided now was time to get serious: I did a lot of on-line research, and settled on the WS3000. I'm not disappointed! For an amateur like me, the geat thing about this machine is it's consistency and ease of use. Plus, it's quick - you can see the results developing before your eye - and it not messy (a bit of grinding dust thrown off the back - nothing really). . This isn't a cheap machine, but if you do the research, you'll find that no decent mechanical system for sharpening bench tools is cheap. Although it's not heavy, the WS3000 feels robust & well made. I ran it for a number of hours almost continuously this afternoon, flatening and sharpening a number of chisels and plane blades, all of which were badly out of true (so a lot of metal neded to be removed to get them sharp). The results were good, and the P120 abrasive disc, which did most of the heavy work, was still going strong at the end of the session.

Yep after trying out a friends work-sharp over Christmas, ( I was going to order a Tormek T3) I hesitated for about 3 seconds. Ordered today from Rutlands so I ope it comes quickly. This beast really is the mutts dangley bits, most of my chisels were already sharp and required 're' sharpening after fitting loads of oak doors afore Xmas (hardwood blunts sharp chisels for a pastime) this machine gave me an edge that you could just about shave with, being soooo impressed I ordered it with all the attachments. As a further follow up I must say this beast really is the mutts. 30 chisels on and some dozen or so for pals, what I thought was sharp clearly was not. Taking teh 120 grit to set the angle then on to 400 through 1000/3600 and finally 6000 honing disc with the leather wheel for the heck of it gave an almost chrome plated finish that I felt brave enough to try one of my Ashley MK 2's on my 3 day old stubble...(DONT try this at home) yep, it gave me a cracking shave. This WORK-Sharp should have been called perfection, for me it is and simply cant wait to blunt a chisel so that I can sharpen it again;-) I'm trying to find out if the 2000 knife jig will fit the 3000...any ideas? being a carpenter and always needing sharp tools i'd thought i would give this a go, also having used the 'tormek' water system for a number of years, i was looking forward to forgo the use of water for cooling on the tormek. I can honestly say that this piece of kit is the best that i have come across in 30 years working on the tools. I would reccomend this tool to any carpenter/joiner of any age if they also like me they take pride in having perfecly sharpe tools at all times. This tool is simple to use, very effective, and portable.

I bought this for a school Design Technology department and my technician has now sharpened several dozen chisels, some of which were in a bad state, and all are now absolutely razor sharp. It's very quick, consistently accurate and effective and vastly better than anything else we have used. Well worth the money in saved time alone.
