The new Xact series of chucks are the latest advancement in work holding systems for the discerning woodturner. This 3" chuck is precision engineered and beautifully balanced offering a superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability.
The compact design of this Xact chuck ensures that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock therefore reducing load on the main headstock bearing and minimising vibration when turning. Xact chucks are specifically designed so the jaws will cut into the wood to provide high tear-out strength, unlike some other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not securely grip the workpiece. Measuring 70mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to midi and mini lathes. The chuck body is threaded to 1" x 8tpi and comes with a precision machined reducer to allow for use with lathes with a 3/4" x 16tpi spindle thread.
This is a great piece of kit and a great price. I am new to woodturning but I ordered on the advise of a more experienced lathe user. It arrived within a couple of days of placing the order and was a simple fit. It looks to be nicely made and I think it will suit my purposes very well.

We bought 8 of these chucks for our school so that we do not have to remove and remount work at the end of each class. We have been delighted with the quality.

Very pleased with this chuck. I use it on my Axminster cast iron lathe. Rotational accuracy is excellent. I have even made some mini chess figure that went down to 4 mm diameter on the stems. Needs to be wiped clean when it first arrives as it is coated in an anti rust grease. Instructions are poor but as other reviewer says there are a lot of good you tube videos out there. 5 stars from me.

So far I have turned a candlestick and a bowl using my new chuck. I found it very simple to set up. I used a 40mm square blank for the candle stick which was gripped in the main jaws. As the candle stick was only 200mm long it did not need support at the tailstock end. For the bowl I used a 200mm Bubinga blank which was 60mm deep. After turning the recess in the rear of the blank the main jaws gripped the blank by expanding into the recess. It was a bit nervous at first when knocking the corners off but once removed the going was very smooth. I would not say they are master pieces but for a first attempt I am proud. there are a number of good videos you can watch about setting up your timber in chucks that take the mystique out of it. Great product that I would definitely buy again.

I bought this chuck absolutley fantastic I have only had it for 24hours I have turned 2 bowls a minature table & a goblet I have not turned as much before. It is because I feel the wood is secure in the chuck jaws & this makes me more relaxed so I do more. Mick

WOW, WOW, WOW. This chuck is brilliant, well balanced and very smooth when running. I purchased this rather than the Record Power Nova G3 and I'm so pleased. I am very new to turning and found it very easy to use. I would highly recommend this to everyone! But get it soon before they run out and at an excellent price too!

I've been searching ages for an affordable lathe chuck and recently I bought this one. Put simply, it's superb, build quality is excellent and the added extras you get are a real bonus. So if you want a well engineered chuck at a very reasonable price, this is the one.

This is an amazing piece of equipment. I find that I can do over 90% of my turning work using this Dakota chuck. It also takes those home made bowl and work piece holders that we put together to save a few quid.It truly has bocome my best mate in my workshop (shed). Thank you Rutlands for stocking this nugget.

A really superb chuck. It does everything claimed for it and more. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and really put it through its paces - it achieves everything I ask of it. Over the years I've used most types of chuck but this one really is the tops.
I can highly recommend this chuck. It is very well engineered, extremely precise and accurate. Excellent for bowl and goblet turning.

I have just upgraded from a Record collet chuck that i found very clumsy to operate. This is in a different league, you simply insert the allen key, rotate and the jaws glide in to position. I've just turned an 8' bowl from square stock and the chuck didn't even flinch.
