This jig is designed for the discerning home woodworker and the professional cabinet maker for the small scale production of cabinet drawers and boxes. Ideal for all kinds of projects, this jig will accept up to 12" wide timbers from 1/4" to 1 1/4" in thickness making this jig suitable for dovetailing boxes, drawers and cabinets. Self aligning guides automatically position the workpiece for pin and tail locations reducing the need for tricky calculations. The jig holds both workpieces at the same time, so that the male and female dovetail cuts are a perfect match.

Two substantial levers operate on a cam lock action to quickly and rigidly grip the timbers eliminating the risk of the workpiece moving when being routed. Supplied with aluminium CNC machined template for producing 1/2" wide half blind dovetails, full instructions and a 1/4" shank router cutter with guide bearing. This is an excellent dovetail jig.

As others have said the supplied instructions are worse thane useless! However, with a bit of fiddling, (6 or 7 attempts), I finally managed to get a reasonable joint. The formula: Router base/2 + stock width x 2 - diameter of cutter was used. It gets you near but further small adjustments are required. For the price I can't fault this item it works....eventually! Perhaps Rutlands should consider producing an instructional video for this item, It'd save no end of frustration.

As I started a project that required a few drawers I decided to buy this to help speed up the process. I am well impressed. It's solid, well made and on my second run through I had perfect dovetails. I had to watch a few videos as the instructions were awful, but the jig works great when set up. The included cutter was defective when I received it, the bearing retainer was loose and that allowed the bearing to float along the cutter shaft...scary...an email to customer services had a new one on it's way the next day...Rutlands is excellent at supporting the clients...no complaints whatsoever.

We order 6 of these for our school just before Christmas. With our reduced budget we could not afford the branded version (Leigh) that we wanted. However we have been delighted. The students have been using them for the past 3 months and some of the pieces they have made are excellent. There is minimal play in the joints. One student even made a blind dovetail out of 3mm thick oak with a beautiful joint.

Very good buy for the money. Like other reviews you need to take time to set up and make everything square but once you have it performs really well. I would recommend this jig.

Bought one in Rutlands sale for £49.95. excellent value at this money. I saw a similar model at Screwfix but the Screwfix one had a plastic template and no cutters. Provided you take time to set everything up correctly this jig produces perfect dovetails. If you want immediate alignment without set up by a Leigh Jig at £300.

Arrived with a broken clamping knob, but Rutlands were excellent sending a replacement bolt immediately. As per Richard's review, download the instructions from Woodstock - much better. I've tinkered around a lot and made multiple test cuts and am still struggling with the offset between the verticle and horizontal pieces. The positioning guides aren't anything special and are not square. On hindsight, I would have preferred to get a more expensive one with better guides for repeat cuts.

excellent piece of kit - requires careful setting up (if you follow the manual supplied you won't work it out,it's pretty awful to be honest)I downloaded a manual from Woodstock,USA for the same unit (different name)which showed everything in great detail & enabled me to set up the jig correctly - it now works a treat

This is a great jig, easy to set up and use. The cams make securing the work pieces very easy. It is important to read and follow the instructions that come with the jig. They are well written but need careful reading before trying your first cut. Getting enough clamping pressure is also important otherwise the wood will move when you try your first cut. The jig is ready to use in a matter of minutes but the tricky part is setting up your router correctly. The size of your router bit, guide collar and depth of cut, are critical to the success of the whole process of making the dovetail joint. My first few attempts didn?t work and I became disillusioned with the jig. Once I re-read the instructions I found it was me that was at fault, not the jig, and I made the necessary corrections to my router. The jig works brilliantly once everything is set up correctly. You do need a 7/16? guide bush to make the correct size of joint, without it you will need a lot of tinkering. Be prepared to do a lot of test cuts. I have ordered the dovetail bit with integral bearing, especially designed for dovetail templates. Hopefully this will allow an easy initial setup. As a low cost jig, this is a real winner and helps you get more out of your router.
