These folding knives are traditionally used for woodcarving and whittling and at one time every adult and child in Japan carried a knife like it. The gently curved blades are shaped like the iconic Samurai swords and feature a sharp tip that is perfect for marking out and detailing.
It is widely recognised that Japan offers some of the world's finest knives and cutting tools. The sword makers to the Samurai were the very best in their trade and their knowledge of metals and metal working has been handed down through the generations of master blacksmiths and is still in use today. These skills and knowledge of materials combine to produce blades that are harder, thinner, stronger and sharper than most western style pocket knives and for this reason Japanese pocket knives are truly outstanding in their quality and performance.

Have had this on my keychain for over a year now. Fantastic little knife, probably the sharpest blade I've ever owned. Just be careful how you hold it - if it shuts on a finger it will slice deep. Have not needed to sharpen it yet, despite almost daily use (opening packaging, light whittling). Give it a light coat of oil every now and again and it looks like it will last forever.

A super little knife that takes and keeps a very sharp edge. It was a good buy. I made a leather pouch for it that makes it easy to keep in my pocket. If you want a sharp pocket knife this is just the job.

Nice little knife here. Curved blade is useful for a multitude of things. This is a slim knife but bare in mind it is small. The handle measures 98mm. I have small hands and when the blade is out I can only just hold it with my whole hand with my thumb on the blade 'stop'. As usual with Japanese high carbon Knives always give it a light coat of a thin oil.

Nice. Superficially very simple, primitive even, this is an item that simply feels right. It's feels like a design that's evolved over a long period and it shows how good the Japanese are at making traditional, top-quality cutting tools at moderate prices. While not remotely 'flash' or modern looking, this knife has been well designed for its purpose, i.e. as a dependable, long-lasting and capable cutting tool for household, office, picnic and garden needs. Beware, the 2.9' blade is VERY sharp and puts many modern blades to shame. If there's one drawback it's that the blade won't necessarily stay open unless you press on the metal thumb pad. But, that's how you naturally hold it so it's not an issue.
