The perfect companion knife that will not only perform any cutting task you ask of it, it will also open that hard earned bottle of wine at the end of a busy day. This traditional Laguiole knife has the added benefit of a built in corkscrew. The knife blade is hand forged from premium quality Swedish stainless steel. This steel, 12C27, has been specifically developed for edge tools such as knives and is hard enough take a razor sharp edge, tough enough not to blunt easily and will not rust.
The blade folds into the handle and a spring lock mechanism holds the blade in position during use. The spring and catch are forged from a single piece of stainless steel and hand filed and finished. Being a single piece rather than two pieces welded together, this part of the mechanism is much stronger than those found on lower cost versions. The catch is in the shape of a bee, an imperial emblem that dates back to Napoleonic times.
The blade, spring, catch, bolsters and corkscrew all have a fine, matt finish. A hardened steel blade stop protects the blade edge when not in use and the solid steel bolsters feature first grade walnut cheeks. This handle assembly is held together with silver nickel pins and inlaid with the traditional shepherd's cross motif. The fold out corkscrew is made of hardened stainless steel and features a five ring spiral with an 8mm diameter; the perfect compliment to a good bottle of wine.
This knife is supplied with a premium quality handcrafted leather pouch and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity and guarantee. Made in France. The company making these knives has been producing some of France’s finest cutlery since the early 1920s. Based in Thiers, which is the French equivalent of Sheffield in England or Solingen in Germany, the manufacturer is situated at the very heart France’s cutlery manufacturing centre.
Using only the very finest materials to create their knives, each knife blade is forged from premium Swedish stainless steel and feature native and exotic hardwoods and well as buffalo horn for their handles. Rather than a brand name, the Laguiole is a style of knife that originated in the French village that bears the same name. Easily recognisable by its characteristic slender blade and slim handle, the Laguiole knife is elegant in its form but is reliable and practical in its use.
