• New 2017 Model... now with new ultra quiet, high torque motor
• Rotates and oscillates for a scratch free, no scorch finish
• Solid cast iron table will accept heavy and large work pieces
• 38mm diameter dust port provides efficient waste removal at source for a better finish

Getting the perfect finish on a curve or contour isn't always easy. Use a flat bed sander and you won't get a smooth shape. Finish by hand and it can often be long laborious work. A bobbin sander is designed to work with the curve or contour giving a flawless finish regardless of radius. This bobbin sander comes with five different diameters of bobbin and combined with the spindle, offers six different sanding diameters of 1/2" (12.7mm), 3/4" (19mm), 1" (25mm), 1 1/2" (38mm), 2" (51mm) and 3" (76mm).

This range of diameters allows the sander to work on anything from a tight curve to a gentle contour. The sander is supplied with six corresponding table inserts to ensure that the work piece is fully supported all the way up to the bobbin. Measuring 370 x 290mm, the cast iron table offers ample work piece support and with a bobbin working height of 110mm, this sander has the capability to handle all sizes of work.

The 450W motor drives the bobbins at 2000rpm and with 58 oscillations per minute, the risk of scorching is kept to a minimum. The 38mm diameter dust extraction port gives you efficient waste removal at source for a better finish. Measuring 330mm from base to table top, this bobbin sander is perfectly sized for bench mounting. The base is designed with various slots to store the supplied accessories, so the correct bobbin and table insert are always at hand.

Supplied with six bobbins (including the spindle), six table inserts and six sanding sleeves. Weight 12.75kg, 230V.

Ordered sander received within a day. Well packaged no damage. I always check contents had 2 extra washers and small plate. Always read instructions, oh dear to say rubbish would be a compliment. Didn't referred to base plate referred to information on page 7 looked and better looked still looking. No explanation regarding smallest sleeve. Followed instruction to attach sleeve and tried machine sanding sleeve moved up over and nearly came off. Gave up contacted company ans spoke to Nathan. Pleasant young man was aware of the problem, explained the rubber sleeve needs tightening down. This made the rubber compress and grip the sanding tube. I tried this I could feel the tube expand and grip the sanding sleeve. It worked. Machine works well although not had full try out. May I suggest to Rutland re write the instructions put on PDF for customers to get full instructions. Perhaps Nathan could do it.

Item arrived safely within the time period specified in the emails from the supplier. Customer service was very effective and helpful regarding the absence of one of the bobbin sleeves. Machine does exactly what it says on the label. To be recommended.

As other reviewers say, this is a exceedingly decent bit of kit £99.95, and I certainly recommend it. Just two tips. The large metal disc with two notches fits on the spindle underneath each bobbin, and the insert is very slightly too thin, and therefore may need some form of paper-thin shimming. Other that that this is a great buy for the price,.

Received the sander a few days ago arrived very well packed, straight out of the box quick degrease of the spindle & table and ready to go. The spindle runs true, the rubber drums are substantial and seem to be good quality rubber. The machine is quiet in operation and is very stable without being too heavy. The only observation was the edges at the base of the table needed a light file to remove the burrs. Have only used it a few times but I am very pleased so far.

I have considered buying a bobbing sander for many years, and have regretted not buying one every time I had one of those occasional jobs which would have been a 1000 times easier if it was in the workshop. This time I was looking at the Jet sander which is approximately three times the price of the Dakota, but at the last minute I erred on the side of caution and ordered the Dakota, and it is everything and more than what I expected for the price. It is a brilliant machine and I would recommend it to anyone who is the market to buy a Bobbing sander; be it someone who is a DIY enthusiast, or a time served cabinet maker like myself, who has been in the trade for 49 years .

I ordered one of these for my scenery making business as I was fed up of having to sand the edges of my MDF products by hand. It has a good solid construction, and took only a few minutes to set up and get working. I have never looked back since. This really is a fantastic piece of kit, making sanding irregular shaped wood quick and painless! Don't know how I would manage without one now. Highly recommended.

Just received this sander and I am very pleased with it. My need and use for one did not warrant buying a very expensive unit and this one suits me fine. It is fairly sturdy and good quality for the price paid. I cannot see anyone being disappointed with it and it will prove to be a useful addition to my small workshop, just what I needed.

I bought this when it was discounted, it's a very rugged machine and bigger than you imagine, I bought the extra sleeves that were also on offer. There are about 3-4 companies offering this exact same machine for a lot more money rebranded. It's a great machine and a perfect addition to my small workshop.

I bought this because (a) I wanted a bobbin sander, (b) I wanted a cheap one, and (c) this was the cheapest clone of the cheapest type of sander out there. Actually, it's fine. The dust collection is pretty effective, it's not terribly noisy (though it doesn't hum or whirr quietly to itself), and everything seems to be set at the right angles. Since I've only ever wanted a 90 degree setting, I thought (and still think) it's better to have something firmly fixed at 90 degrees than something that will never be quite exactly the angle you want, even though you can choose it arbitrarily. On receipt, I cleaned the table down with some white spirit and a rag, and then waxed it nicely before use. No trouble with that bit. My one gripe is that the inserts sit just slightly below the table height - the plastic is slightly too thin. If you work from one edge of a workpiece, it can catch on the table at the edge of the insert as you push it past the bobbin as you start down one edge. If it gets really important, I'll have to start inventing some shims that are just the right size, and that won't be easy for me. The on-board storage is good, and holds spare drums, inserts and the included spanner. However, there are a few bits that are still left over - compression washers to match different sizes of bobbin, for example. Slightly annoying. Overall, though, it seems like a decent tool. It will certainly do everything I want of it, and assuming it doesn't fail too soon, it seems like decent value for money.

I got this machine as an early Christmas pressie from my wife while it was on offer, and what excellent value it was at that price. Nice cast table and very quiet in operation. Rigged to a 4" extractor the dust removal is excellent and far better than I imagined for an open sander. Very stable in use, even without fixing the base down. The one minor crit is the sleeves do need the drums tightening down extra firm to stop them riding up in use. Otherwise, excellent.

Excellent machine, but just wish the instructions matched. I have 2 pieces that are not shown on the instructions. On page 7 it says "NOTE: Please ensure the support washer as detailed on page 7 of the instruction manual is fitted to the spindle before applying the bobbin." I have searched page 7 and every other page, but there is no mention of the support washer! For safe working practice, I do not like to presume anything, but have to presume that the large metal disk with the two half-moon cutouts is the support washer, while the other metal disk, approx 45mm diameter is a mystery. Is it a washer for the larger drums, or a support washer for the smaller drums. I have no idea!! Why not create PDF files of really detailed instructions which can then be downloaded.

I did my research before buying this bobbin sander and looked at various models both on the internet and in store. I considered models from Draper, Woodstar, Triton and this Dakota one. Guess what? They're all the same machine. I bought the Dakota as it's £50 cheaper and it works perfectly.

This is fantastic value for money. The build quality is excellent and the cast iron table top is smooth and flat. The dust port works very efficiently when connected to my 2000W extractor. One thing to be wary of though, the abrasives cut very quickly so caution should be exercised when taking final cuts! A great buy and one I'd recommend to anyone.

This bobbin sander has made my life so much easier. I can now sand curves quickly and accurately without having to spend ages doing by hand. It has increased my productivity considerably which is no bad thing.

If you're wondering why you get six sizes of abrasive and only five rubber bobbins, it's because the smallest diameter abrasive sleeve fits directly onto the centre spindle. Great machine and combined with an 80 grit abrasive can make light work of shaping most woods - it's a pretty aggressive combo. The 120g is better for lighter shaping but I would have liked a wider choice of grits available. Can't fault the performance of the machine though.

Bought the Dakota bobbin sander on a special deal after spending months trying to justify the cost of getting one. My only regret is not buying one sooner as I use it far more than I anticipated. It's well built and there is plenty of room for manoeuvre on the table top and it isn't too noisy in use.

Excellent sander. I must say that the cast iron table is larger than it looks in the picture and I was surprised when I first unpacked it as I will be able to sand larger pieces on it.

I make guitars and wanted a machine that could accurately sand curves and contours. I'm certainly not disappointed with this bobbin sander. I've sanded two maple bodies so far and the curves are perfect and there's been no scorching of the wood either. The storage slots are a great idea too - I won't lose any of the accessories!
