Precision Grinder & Polisher with Flexi-shaft & Handpiece
Rutlands Part No. DK6701TM
• Extremely powerful, whisper quiet, high torque 200 watt motor
• Variable speed control from 3,000 to 10,000rpm
• Pre-fitted with a 75mm diameter x 18mm wide grinding stone and a fibre wheel...
for initial reshaping and deburring
• Easily converts into a bench polisher for fine honing and polishing
• Attach the flexible rotary shaft and handpiece for precision sharpening and polishing
This compact yet extremely powerful machine is designed for the grinding, sharpening, polishing and buffing of tools, and has the added benefit of a flexible rotary shaft complete with hand piece. It is considerably smaller than a standard bench grinder but much more capable of preserving the profiles of tools when honing, shaping and polishing.
The whisper quiet, high torque 200W motor has variable speed control from 3,000 to 10,000rpm which is operated by a central dial. The variable speed control allows for correct rotational speeds to be precisely controlled when in grinding and polishing mode, buffing mode and when using the rotary shaft. The cast iron body of the unit combined with the balanced, high performance motor results in a machine that is as vibration free as we have ever tested. The body is pre-drilled if you wish to permanently bench mount.
The machine is pre-fitted with a 75mm diameter x 18mm wide grinding stone and a fibre wheel for the initial reshaping and deburring of tools. To convert into a bench polisher for fine honing and polishing you simply remove the pre-fitted stones and attach the tapered spindles to either end of the main machine shaft. Then simply screw on the two 75mm x 15mm supplied felt polishing wheels, reduce the rotational speed and commence polishing and honing. These two modes are perfect for sharpening and honing all types of woodworking edge tools such as chisels, carving tools and turning tools.
I wish I had bought this quality grinder years ago, but at this price it's a must have even if you have others in your workshop. It's variable speed is a big advantage and as a polisher for small items, exceptional.
I didn't think I would use the flexible shaft since I have both a Dremel and a Proxxon drill/grinder. However, just trying it out I can see me using it. It's a quality flexible shaft and with its variable speed even better than the Dremel. At this price it's a must have in my opinion.

I have been looking for a way to grind my tungsten rods for tig welding when I saw this grinder under offer. I was fortunate in that my wife bought me it for my birthday and what a gift it is.
The build quality is excellent and runs very quiet with variable speed it's just the job. Already owning a Dremel I didn't really think I would use the flexible shaft but tried it and I must say I will definitely be using it. Added to the polishing capability and removing burrs it is an excellent tool. I also love the portability and it stays where you put it. 5 stars is where it should be
Makes Dremel look like a toy.

I can recommend this sharpener to any fellow carver. It took me close on to 8 hours to sharpen all of my Pfeil carving tools but the result is well worth the effort. I used some Jewellers rouge on the yellow mop and I can now see my face in the steel.

I bought this machine after reading a very positive review in an American woodworking magazine. As a wood carver working primarily on sculpting animals I spend considerable time resharpening my tools. This unit is ideal as it is very well balanced and is near vibration free enabling me to control my tool edges better than on a Tormek style sharpener. I have set it up with the grinding wheel on the left spindle and a polishing hear on the right. This way I can reshape, sharpen and polish without removing wheels. I have not used the flexi shaft yet but all appears well.
