Based in China, Qiangsheng Luban are experts in their field of hand plane manufacture. Using a combination of traditional and modern manufacturing processes along with tried and trusted designs, they produce planes that offer exceptional quality. Since their arrival in 2005 they have established themselves as the serious alternative to the premium plane brands from North America. Their attention to detail in the finishing process is in our opinion second to none and the weight and balance ratio is of the highest level. Qiangsheng Luban planes are an exceptionally popular choice with discerning woodworkers and cabinetmakers throughout the world....

A good low angle block plane is invaluable when working with end grain and this one is a good investment for any woodworker. The mouth is easily adjustable for the depth of cut required from deep aggressive cuts to fine translucent shavings. Produced from a single steel casting, the body of the plane is precision ground for a flat sole and square wings.

During this process, the body is fully stress relieved to prevent the plane deforming with time and use. The high carbon steel blade is 1/8" thick and fits perfectly against the machined body. This support virtually eliminates any risk of chatter. The blade is held in position by a large bronze cap iron with an integrated palm rest which allows the plane to nestle snugly in the hand. With a bevel angle of 25°, the blade is bedded at an angle of 12° giving an overall cutting angle of 37°; perfect for trimming end grain without tearing.

Dimples on the wings of the plane offer a firm grip to thumb and finger giving the plane a very positive feel in use. Blade adjustments are made using the knurled steel thumb screw and gives precise control over the setting of the blade. This is an exceptional low angle block plane that makes light work of both light finishing and smoothing and end grain tasks. Plane measures 165mm long by 44mm wide.

I have just bought one of these fantastic little block planes. Quite contrary to my usual choice, I don't as a rule by chinese stuff, however, this plane has already proven itself to be worthy of sitting amongst my stanleys a records.Infact I would go so far as to say it is better. Not only does it look good it works perfectly too. There was no need to mess about flattening the sole etc, just a quick hone to add the secondary bevel and it works very efficiently. T he machining is to a very high quality and it shows sraight from the box.

I have to agree with all the others here in praise of this little gem. The finish of it is superb but I was most impressed by its weight at over 800 grams. Its narrower than my old record but much more comfortable in the hand. This gives it a great feel and an inertia that makes it a pleasure to use. The Chinese can make good tools!

For the price you will not find a better block plane, but don't expect the fit and finish to be the same as the high end brands. The sole was very close to perfectly flat (didn't take long to get it perfect), the sides are square to the sole, blade steel is very high quality and sharpens well. A couple of areas that will want some attention for anyone who buys one - remove the grinding marks from the underside of the lever cap and the depth adjustment will be smoother. Only real niggle is that there's a bit of backlash on the depth adjuster, whereas the older block planes had none (slightly different mechanism).
