Based in China, Qiangsheng Luban are experts in their field of hand plane manufacture. Using a combination of traditional and modern manufacturing processes along with tried and trusted designs, they produce planes that offer exceptional quality. Since their arrival in 2005 they have established themselves as the serious alternative to the premium plane brands from North America. Their attention to detail in the finishing process is in our opinion second to none and the weight and balance ratio is of the highest level. Qiangsheng Luban planes are an exceptionally popular choice with discerning woodworkers and cabinetmakers throughout the world.

This excellent No 4 smoothing plane features a fully stress relieved steel body allowing it to remain true throughout its entire working life. Precision machined to exacting tolerances ensures the sole of the plane is flat, the wings are square to the sole and there is a perfect fit between the plane body and frog. Measuring 51mm wide, the high carbon steel blade is tempered and hardened to Rc 60-64 meaning this blade will sharpen to and retain a razor sharp edge.

The thick stainless steel cap iron supports the 3mm thick blade against the full length frog for less chatter and tear out especially when working highly figured timbers. The chip breaker is precision ground to give maximum contact with the blade. The handle and front knob are made from premium quality bubinga. Please note: As wood is a natural product, we cannot guarantee a perfect match between handle and knob; variations will occur.

This smoothing plane measures 250mm in length and weighs 2.17kg.

Received this plane and the quality of the engineering is quite good. Plane was flat, thick blade with limited chatter, a nice piece of kit. Except the front and back handles are a different timber and a different finish. Rutlands say all these planes they supply are now the same and can't sent a replacement handle to match which is quite disappointing.

This Bedrock no4 plane arrived 5 days ago. Came in a box, was vacuum wrapped with plenty of oil. Unwrapping it I found a very nicely finish plane with a pristine, shiny, unmarked sole which was flat when tested. The blade had to be sharpened which did not take long. A micro bevel was honed quickly. Adjustment of the depths is easy and quick. Within no time I was able to remove translucent shaving which were so thin that the electrostatic pull made the stick to my hands and clothes. An impressive result.A great buy which I warmly recommend.

This is a beautiful smoothing plane. The castings are perfect and the bubinga handles set the plane off perfectly. There is not chatter and this plane produces fine translucent shavings.

When I opened the box I had a pleasant surprise. The plane looks MUCH better than in the pictures of this site! Handles are made of bubinga with a very nice satin finish, not too 'heavy'. The blade and chipbreaker are amazingly thick, the overall finish is good, maybe not Veritas-like, but sure nicer than in the pictures. The sole needed a little flattening to be perfect while the blade was flat, a bit rough, but it is within the process of sharpening in any case. I honed it at 30 plus a microbevel (optimal for A2 blades like this is), it produces an incredibly smooth surface. The frog sits well on the body and the blade on the frog... excellent machining and the Bedrock is a joy over the normal construction since it allows setting the blade when still mounted and gives a better support for the blade. An excellent piece of tool at a bargaign price, highly recommended.
