Based in China, Qiangsheng Luban are experts in their field of hand plane manufacture. Using a combination of traditional and modern manufacturing processes along with tried and trusted designs, they produce planes that offer exceptional quality. Since their arrival in 2005 they have established themselves as the serious alternative to the premium plane brands from North America. Their attention to detail in the finishing process is in our opinion second to none and the weight and balance ratio is of the highest level. Qiangsheng Luban planes are an exceptionally popular choice with discerning woodworkers and cabinetmakers throughout the world.

The low angle jack plane is the plane of choice when working with large areas of end grain. With a cutting angle of only 37°, this plane will slice cleanly rather than tear or scrape at the wood leaving a smooth, fine finish. This plane is by no means a one trick pony and can be used in the same way as a standard jack plane and also as a smoothing plane with exceptional results.

Cast from steel, the body of the plane is fully stress relieved to ensure the plane remains true and warp free throughout its entire working life. The sole and wings are precision ground and lapped to be perfectly flat and square and the 12° frog is machined on its top surface to ensure optimum contact with the blade. Within the toe of the plane lies the adjustment for the mouth.

Locked in position by a brass screw mechanism, the mouth may be opened for heavy cutting or closed for finer cuts. The thick cap iron hold the blade firmly in position for chatter free cutting even at angles to the grain. The high carbon steel blade measures 58mm wide and is 3mm thick. The bubinga handle and front knob are shaped to give you a firm yet comfortable grip on the plane.

This is an easy to adjust, easy to set up plane that fulfils a number of workshop functions. Length 350mm.

Super plane but very annoyed - my wife bought me this Jack plane for Christmas from another tool outlet and she paid £146. The man in the shop said that this was the lowest she would find it at! Tried to return it to the other people but told I am outside my 14 day cool off period. Next year we'll wait for the sale.

Wow - Veritas must be worried. Put a straight edge and feeler gauges under the sole of the plane and less than 1/10" of a thou across the whole length. Photo does not do justice to the plane.
