Qiangsheng Luban Standard Angle Block Plane

Rutlands    Part No. DK1178
Based in China, Qiangsheng Luban are experts in their field of hand plane manufacture. Using a combination of traditional and modern manufacturing processes along with tried and trusted designs, they produce planes that offer exceptional quality. Since their arrival in 2005 they have established themselves as the serious alternative to the premium plane brands from North America. Their attention to detail in the finishing process is in our opinion second to none and the weight and balance ratio is of the highest level. Qiangsheng Luban planes are an exceptionally popular choice with discerning woodworkers and cabinetmakers throughout the world.

• The perfect choice for working along or across the grain
• Solid cast steel body precision ground for a flat sole and square wings
• Fine pitch blade adjustment thread for improved blade setting accuracy
• Integrated palm rest makes this plane exceptionally comfortable to hold and use
• 3mm thick, high carbon steel blade bevelled to 25°
• Plane measures : 165mm long | Weighs : 850g

Designed for making trimming and fine adjustment cuts, the block plane is an invaluable tool in the workshop. Made from premium quality cast steel, this block plane is fully stress relieved and precision ground to exacting tolerances to be square and flat. This block plane has a modified body casting to make it more responsive in use and a finer pitch blade adjustment thread for improved blade setting accuracy.

Featuring a knurled brass knob, the front shoe is fully adjustable allowing the mouth to be opened or closed for heavy or fine cutting. The oversize bronze cap iron features an integrated rest which lets the plane sit comfortably in the palm of the hand and feels very positive in use. This cap iron gives full support to the 3mm thick blade for a clean chatter free cut.

The 25 bevelled blade is seated at 20 within the plane. Made from high carbon steel, the 35mm wide blade is tempered and hardened to Rc 60-64 allowing it to be honed and to maintain a razor sharp edge. Weighing 850g, this plane has an overall length of 165mm.

I have to agree with all the others here in praise of this little gem. The finish of it is superb but I was most impressed by its weight at over 800 grams. Its narrower than my old record but much more comfortable in the hand. This gives it a great feel and an inertia that makes it a pleasure to use. The Chinese can make good tools!

I have just bought one of these fantastic little block planes. Quite contrary to my usual choice, I don't as a rule by chinese stuff, however, this plane has already proven itself to be worthy of sitting amongst my stanleys a records.Infact I would go so far as to say it is better. Not only does it look good it works perfectly too. There was no need to mess about flattening the sole etc, just a quick hone to add the secondary bevel and it works very efficiently. T he machining is to a very high quality and it shows sraight from the box.

These 'Quangsheng' planes are unlike so many of cheap imports coming in from the Far East today. They are direct 'clones' of the Lie-Nielsen models but, they're also comparable to the high-range in terms of performance. Very well made, they feel solid and the plane iron takes a good, sharp edge - and holds it well! Without owning a L-N block plane, I cannot honestly see what those do that the Quangsheng planes don't...! These even come in a nice wooden box (if you like those sorts of things!).

This is a first rate product. When i opened the parcel, i was pleased to see that it came packaged in a nice wooden box. As soon as i unwrapped the plane and cleaned the oil off it, i was immediately struck by the exceptional quality of the finish, both on the machined faces and the painted surfaces. A careful examination with a square and straight edge revealed the sole and wings to be flat and true, and it took only a few minutes to lap the iron to perfect flatness and smoothness. So far the plane has proved excellent in use, and caused quite a stir at the workshop where i work. Not least because of its price.
