revolving centre and 150mm cast iron tool rest
• 3 Year Manufacturer's Warranty

Weighing in at 37kg the headstock, tailstock and bed of this woodturning lathe are constructed of heavy cast iron that has been precision machined for accuracy. The 1/2 hp high torque induction motor runs extremely quietly and has more than enough power to turn large diameter projects without stalling. By moving the poly v belt on the stepped pulleys, five spindle speeds between 760 and 3200rpm can be achieved. This allows for a bowl turning capacity of 240mm and a spindle capacity of 440mm between centres. This lathe also has the advantage that as the wood turners skill develops the lathe can also develop, by simply adding the optional DK6731 bed extension kit. This cast iron bed extension kit provides for up to 965mm between centres, allowing for the turning of standard lamps, stair spindle or chair legs.

The tailstock and saddle assembly smoothly slide along the machined cast iron bed and are rigidly locked off in position using cam operated steel levers and bristol locking levers. Both headstock and tailstock have No 2 morse tapers and the main drive spindle has the now industry standard 1" x 8tpi thread. The tailstock has a steel turn handle and is hollow bored to allow for long hole boring when turning table lamps. This is a delightful lathe to use and runs extremely smoothly, with minimal levels of vibration and with the lowest noise level we have come across. Supplied with a four prong centre, 75mm face plate for bowl turning, revolving centre and 150mm cast iron tool rest.

This 3" chuck is precision engineered and beautifully balanced offering a superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability. The compact design of this Xact chuck ensures that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock therefore reducing load on the main headstock bearing and minimising vibration when turning. Xact chucks are specifically designed so the jaws will cut into the wood to provide high tear-out strength, unlike some other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not securely grip the workpiece. Measuring 70mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to midi and mini lathes. The chuck body is threaded to 1" x 8tpi and comes with a precision machine reducer to allow for use with lathes with a 3/4" x 16tpi spindle thread.

Engineered from medium tensile steel, this chuck is strong and durable and features a precision machined scroll mechanism and high ratio gearing for a strong grip irrespective of work piece size. The jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece. The 24 hole indexing ring at the rear of the chuck allows for decorative work to be performed. This chuck comes with a wide array of jaws allowing for pen turning, spindle turning, bowl turning, goblets and candle sticks and much more. Presented in a aluminium camera-style carry case. This is without doubt the finest chuck system we have ever offered and represents exceptional value for money.

I recently bought a Record Power No3 lathe and I had been looking for a chuck that would allow me to turn large bowls as well doing delicate turnings such as making pens and pencils. The first impression when the chuck arrived was excellent. The aluminium case is well made and all of the contents were perfectly held in place in the foam liner. No instructions are included however it is quite simple to understand what does what. The compact design of the chuck keeps large bowls as close as possible to the main headstock which I am sure will prevent the main bearing from premature wear. The scroll mechanism is smooth and grips with real strength - I turned a 12" x 3" Bubinga bowl and it performed admirably. Have tried pen turning yet but will do another review when I have. So far 5 our of 5 .

Excellent kit, chuck so easy to use and a good choice of additional jaws. Ideal kit for both those new to turning. Comes in a handy case to keep all parts separate. Jaws are easy to change between the options. The service received was excellent and a small problem I had was quickly and effectively sorted out. Well worth the price.

What can be said that hasn't already been said - brilliant, fantastic value for money, everyone who saw my purchase wanted one! I have turned small pieces on this chuck I was not able to easily do on my larger one. I could go on - BUT - try it yourself you wont be sorry!

I have been turning for over 25 years and have a grand total of 5 chuck systems and 3 lathes -Jet,Rexon (midi) and One Way which is the best in the world. I bought this chuck for my Grandson to use on my Rexon lathe as it came with all of the jaws he would ever need. He loves it and has already turned a goblet and an egg cup. The chuck is beautifully finished with no sharp edges and runs true with no noticeable vibration. I am in the process of teaching him how to use the indexing ring. I have no hesitation in saying this is an excellent chuck system.

Excellent value. I looked at the Record Nova, Clubman, Patriot and the Axminster chucks at my two local tool shops near High Wycombe. Rutlands don't have a retail shop so I ordered one on the basis I would send it back if I didn't like it. It is not going back! It looks identical to the Record Nova and Charnwood chucks but the Rutlands version comes with all the jaws I will ever need. Selling point is that i have 2 lathes - delta with big metric thread and Record with a smaller thread and the adaptor supplied means i can use it on both.

Excellent service - ordered 8 April, delivered SW France 13 April for only £15. Very pleased with the lathe, well designed, well made, centres match exactly, whisper quiet, vibration-free. Instruction book is very poor, numbers do not match parts, speeds in wrong order, no explanation of some parts. I am looking forward to learning the art of woodturning.

A cracking small lathe for the money. Very smooth, hardly a sound from it and accurate enough for any job. Slightly lacking oomph for larger work but that's not it's job anyway. You can't go wrong with this one.

this is an excellent product. easy to use, highly recommended, but the instruction book seems to be back to front. needs some common sense. could do with rewriting. lets lathe down. part numbers are incorrect and speed instructions back to front. love the actual lathe.

I recently purchased this lathe to start turning again as I wanted to expand my small woodcraft shop. The build quality is very acceptable for a lathe of this price and it's a dream to operate. No problems at all and would recommend it. Great value for money!

Similar to the other reviewer I bought an electronic variable speed lathe and had nothing but problems with the switch. Some days it would work other it wouldn't. The retailer refunded me after trying three new switches and I went and bought this lathe. I have just completed a set of goblets from 5" x 10" Bubinga sections and the lathe has performed admirably. Simplicity is the best solution.

Recommended this lathe by a friend who has been turning for 20 years. Arrived in two very heavy boxes. Bed with motor, pulley and switch in one box (all set up), and tail stock, head and saddle in another. Took roughly 1/2 hour to assemble. Like others say very quiet and large rubber feet absorb and dissipate what vibration there is - which is negligible. Very please.

I bought this lathe having had repeat problems with an electronic variable speed lathe of a similar size. My advice is buy the mechanical step pulley version and eliminate the risk of electrical failures. Electronic PCB boards and dust don't like each other.

My local wood turning club have 3 of these lathes permanently set up. One is fitted with the bed extension. They are very solid and really smooth running. You don't even need to bolt them down. Changing speeds is a bit fiddly as you need to raise the motor with one hand to slacken the tension off and then move the belt onto the next pulley level.Secret is to wedge a piece of wood under the motor to give you two free hands. We have just placed another order for two more - so that tells you what we think!
