The new Xact series of chucks are the latest advancement in work holding systems for the discerning woodturner. This 3" chuck is precision engineered and beautifully balanced offering a superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability.

The compact design of this Xact chuck ensures that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock therefore reducing load on the main headstock bearing and minimising vibration when turning. Xact chucks are specifically designed so the jaws will cut into the wood to provide high tear-out strength, unlike some other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not securely grip the workpiece. Measuring 70mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to midi and mini lathes. The chuck body is threaded to 1" x 8tpi and comes with a precision machined reducer to allow for use with lathes with a 3/4" x 16tpi spindle thread.

Engineered from medium tensile steel, this chuck is strong and durable and features a precision machined scroll mechanism and high ratio gearing for a strong grip irrespective of work piece size. The jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece. The 24 hole indexing ring at the rear of the chuck allows for decorative work to be performed. Sold as a kit, this chuck comes with a wide array of jaws allowing for pen turning, spindle turning, bowl turning, goblets and candlesticks and much more. The chuck comes with standard dovetail jaws, large dovetail jaws, spigot jaws, pin and stepped jaws which offer both compression and expansion gripping, button jaws complete with both long and short pegs and a woodscrew.

Presented in an aluminium camera-style carry case the kit has dedicated foam cut outs, so there is no excuse for leaving jaw sets lying around the workshop when not in use. This is without doubt the finest chuck system we have ever offered and represents exceptional value for money. It even comes with a host of spare jaw screws in the event that you lose the occasional one when changing jaws. If you're looking for the finest chuck on the market look no further. Highly Recommended.

Excellent value. I looked at the Record Nova, Clubman, Patriot and the Axminster chucks at my two local tool shops near High Wycombe. Rutlands don't have a retail shop so I ordered one on the basis I would send it back if I didn't like it. It is not going back! It looks identical to the Record Nova and Charnwood chucks but the Rutlands version comes with all the jaws I will ever need. Selling point is that i have 2 lathes - delta with big metric thread and Record with a smaller thread and the adaptor supplied means i can use it on both.

Bought this chuck after using it at my turning class. I can highly recommend it. No instruction manual - so could do with a video to show how to use all the accessories.

I recently bought another brand of chuck (New Zealand) and when I fitted it to the spindle of my Coronet Major Lathe there was significant levels of vibration when turning large pieces. The chuck supplier told me it would be because my lathe was 30 years old and that the thread would have worn. I returned it and bought this chuck as it has received positive reviews due to it's compact design which is meant to reduce load on the spindles bearing. I have turned 3 fruit bowls (10", 12" and 16") all out of tulip wood and the chuck has performed superbly. Mounting and re mounting the bowls was fast and simple. My next project is a pair of candle sticks and then a goblet - I can't wait. Only quibble is how long the jaw fixing screw heads will last for before I round them off. Thankfully you get more than you need. Excellent chuck that I would fully recommend and excellent value.

I have been turning for over 25 years and have a grand total of 5 chuck systems and 3 lathes -Jet,Rexon (midi) and One Way which is the best in the world. I bought this chuck for my Grandson to use on my Rexon lathe as it came with all of the jaws he would ever need. He loves it and has already turned a goblet and an egg cup. The chuck is beautifully finished with no sharp edges and runs true with no noticeable vibration. I am in the process of teaching him how to use the indexing ring. I have no hesitation in saying this is an excellent chuck system.

This a very well engineered chuck and well worth the cost. However, the lack of instructions for a novice turner leaves a lot be desired. Having said that it is hardly rocket science to assemble the chuck but please Rutlands give some info on what all the little and big bits are for and what they should be used for.

Ignore the low price of this chuck kit, it has proved itself to be both comprehensive and accurate. Terrific value for money.

What can be said that hasn't already been said - brilliant, fantastic value for money, everyone who saw my purchase wanted one! I have turned small pieces on this chuck I was not able to easily do on my larger one. I could go on - BUT - try it yourself you wont be sorry!

Very good deal for the money,i purchased this chuck because it said it had an addapter that would fit most lathes, but it did not fit my old poolwood as the adapter fouled the head stock, when i contacted Rutlands to tell them it seemed that it was just to bad and they made no enfort to try and rectify my problem so make sure that this very nice chuck will fit your Lathe before you buy.

Excellent kit, chuck so easy to use and a good choice of additional jaws. Ideal kit for both those new to turning. Comes in a handy case to keep all parts separate. Jaws are easy to change between the options. The service received was excellent and a small problem I had was quickly and effectively sorted out. Well worth the price.

Only having a basic lathe I decided that perhaps a huge expense at this time was not justified, but I wanted to get a chuck system that would be both value for money and allow me to develop as a turner without restricting me too much. I found this item and compared it many others, I took the plunge having got Rutlands to send me information about jaw dimensions for compression and expansion. Ordered it and it arrived the very next day. Superb is my first impression of it. (BTW it also includes a screw centre. No instruction leaflet but I dare say that is available somewhere. great service, good despatch item look s good as well.

I recently bought a Record Power No3 lathe and I had been looking for a chuck that would allow me to turn large bowls as well doing delicate turnings such as making pens and pencils. The first impression when the chuck arrived was excellent. The aluminium case is well made and all of the contents were perfectly held in place in the foam liner. No instructions are included however it is quite simple to understand what does what. The compact design of the chuck keeps large bowls as close as possible to the main headstock which I am sure will prevent the main bearing from premature wear. The scroll mechanism is smooth and grips with real strength - I turned a 12" x 3" Bubinga bowl and it performed admirably. Have tried pen turning yet but will do another review when I have. So far 5 our of 5 .
