Product Details

This powerful 1800 watt surface planer leaves super fine finishes on soft and hardwoods. Mounted in a balanced cutter block, the two high speed steel blades rotate at 12,000rpm, removing up to 3mm depth in one pass. By turning a dial on the infeed table you can micro-adjust the cutting depth to suit the hardness of wood being planed. On softwoods you can remove up to the maximum 3mm in one pass and on hardwoods it is recommended to remove up to 1mm in one pass.

The 155mm wide surface table is made from a precision machined aluminium casting and the side fence tilts through 45 degrees for planing chamfers and angles. The planer blade guard can be moved and locked off both vertically and horizontally to cover the exposed blades. For added safety the no volt release switch ensures that the motor will not switch back on after a power cut without the operator pressing the on switch. A 50mm dust port allows for connection to industry standard dust hose, drawing dust directly from the cutter block to ensure an excellent clean workpiece finish.

Whether you a truing up a piece of four by two, planing an edge or board to size this premium performance surface planer will be a major asset in any home or joinery workshop.

I ordered this at about 5pm on a Monday and it was delivered before 5pm on the next day, all I can say is wow. I purchased an ex-demo model for £80 so didn't expect the best, I wasn't even expecting the proper box, but it came packed in all the original packaging and looked like it was brand new. The only thing missing is the spanner to set the side fence, which isn't really a problem as I've got lots of spanners. I set it up in about 10 minutes and the quality of cut is perfect straight from the box. I tried it on a piece of softwood and it gave a beautiful smooth cut. You definitely need dust extraction because it kicks a lot of wood chips out of the extraction port, as i found out when I covered my work bench. I was quite impressed that all the chips did actually come from the extraction port, which I have found doesn't always happen. Overall I am massively impressed with this planer for the price. I had been waiting to get one of these surface planers for a while and it was worth the wait. I would have been happy paying the full price but the bonus of getting it for £80 is great. Can't wait to use it more often, but I need to get some push blocks to protect my fingers. Safety first. Thanks Rutlands for the great customer service.

Delivered to SW France in under 2 days, together with 2 other power tools - that's service. Good instructions, easy to assemble and set up, produces an excellent finish. First-class value for money.

I have been using this little beauty for the past few months. It is so easy to set up, safe and leaves a lovely finish on both hard and soft woods. Much easier to use than an electric hand plane and superior results as the planer tables are longer ensuring a more accurate finish.

I brought this planer as I needed a replacement quick, was a bit dubious about it (looking at the photo, looked a bit flimsy), but it turned out to be a very sturdy and well built planer. Easily set up, very easy to use. No problems or complaints. Didn't even have to set the blades (which I've had to do on more expensive machines).
Would I rate this, yes 10 / 10.
Great machine for someone who only needs one for occasional use.

Mr Harry Lord

It took me all of 15 minutes to set up and start planning. The casting are very well machined and the twin cutters leave a very smooth, clean finish. Instruction manual is poor but then again it is quite a simple machine to operate. Only used on softwoods where it was happy planning 1.5mm in one pass. Would I recommend - yes.

If you want to true up rough sawn timber this makes the process a doddle. Once you have trued one face the rest is super fast.
