Product Details

Kunz is a family owned company that has been manufacturing premium performance planes exclusively in Germany since 1992. Using cutting edge technology Kunz are recognised worldwide as a leading authority in the design and manufacture of hand planes and spokeshaves. This is a premium quality reproduction of the original Stanley No 78 Rabbet plane. When the plane is used with the fence it works as a moving fillister plane designed for producing rabbets both with and across the grain. When used without the fence and it becomes a standard rabbet plane designed for cleaning up and finishing rabbets.

The plane iron has two seatings, a rear seating for cutting rabbets and a forward seating for bullnose work. The grey iron cast fence mounts to the main body of the plane using a steel rod and the planing width is controlled by sliding the fence along the rod. Once set the fence is absolutely parallel to the machined side of the plane body. Both the body and integrated handle are made from a fine grey iron casting which is coated with green epoxy resin and then finely ground on the base and sides. The 39mm wide plane iron is made for 3.5mm thick tool steel which has been hardened and tempered to guarantee a long edge life. Made in Germany.
