Product Details
This 3000 grit stone is used for adding the final razor sharp edge and is the perfect choice when honing hard tool steels found on tools such as hand plane blades, chisels and Japanese kitchen knives. The soft bonding compound releases the suspended abrasive particles very easily for rapid, clog free cutting.
Measuring 180mm x 60mm x 14mm these stones are supplied with a wrap around soft rubber base that protects and prevents the stone from wandering during sharpening. These waterstones consist of aluminium oxide, carbide and nitride particles all fused together. Simply soak the stone in a bowl of cold water for 1 to 2 minutes prior to use. After sharpening ensure the stone is dry prior to storage. As the supply of premium natural stone has become almost exhausted, man made sharpening stones have become more popular. Now favoured by many over the natural stones, you are guaranteed a stone with a uniform grit size that will produce consistent, high quality results when sharpening. ©

Richard Parsons
I'm really happy with this stone (I got mine as a set with a 1000 and 600). I know there is a subjective quality over honing tools, but this stone works great for me. I've used it for chisels, plane irons, and my kitchen knives. My older Stanley plane irons are sharp enough to dry shave with. As a beginner this has helped me loads as I've struggled to get good results in the past. Just be light on this stone, if the edge is not too dulled, then a couple of gentle passes should be enough to bring it back. There's loads of instruction on the box for proper care.
