Product Details

Designed and made for use in the field, whether it be camping, hunting or even trekking and hiking, this knife will prove its worth very quickly. With its 120mm blade, this is a well sized knife not too small to be impractical but not too large to be cumbersome. It has a reassuringly solid feel in use and exudes a sense of reliability and purpose. This is a knife you can depend on when you need it the most. The first thing you notice is the stunning Damascus pattern blade, hand forged by Saji, the traditional Japanese master craftsman whose signature the blade bears. This 11 layer blade consists of a single central layer of fine, white paper steel. White paper steel is carbon steel made from a very pure iron ore and carbon, with nothing else added to the alloy. This makes the steel very fine with the capability of being hardened to a much higher degree than most other steels. This extra hardness benefits the knife by giving it the ability to take an ultra fine, razor like edge that will not dull or blunt very quickly or easily. On to this core, five layers of softer iron are layered up on either side. This supports the central layer protecting it from knocks and shocks that may otherwise cause the hard steel core to crack or chip. The blade and tang are forged as a single piece putting a great strength at the very heart of this knife. The solid wooden handle has wood veneer overlays giving it a rustic look, but it feels very natural and perfectly balanced in the hand. A shaped, steel ferrule acts as a finger guard preventing your hand from slipping in use and reinforcing your firm grip of the knife. The knife is supplied with a matching wood and leather sheath to keep the blade protected when not in use. This sheath can be belt mounted if required. Made in Japan. Saji is a name synonymous with the very best knives Japan has to offer. A highly regarded craftsman, Takeshi Saji has been honoured by his native Japan many times and has even been declared a national treasure for the unparalleled quality of his work. Born in 1948 in to a blacksmithing family, Saji was apprenticed to a master knife maker at the age of 14. From the very beginning of his apprenticeship it was obvious that Saji had a natural talent for his craft. Originating and still living in Takefu, Saji is at the very heart of traditional and cultural centre of Japan's hammer forged knife industry. Takefu itself has a worldwide reputation for the quality of its blades. Its knife manufacturing history dates back over 700 years and is in an area famed for its exceptionally pure quality iron ore. Each knife Saji produces is a work of art that is made to be used. The sheer quality of his knives will ensure they last and continue to work hard for their owner for years to come. Beautiful heirloom quality knives. Age Restricted Product - It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase this product. By placing an order for this product, you confirm you are 18 years of age or over.
