Product Details

This spectacular pocket knife is not only a thing of great beauty, it is also a joy to use. The hand forged blade has a VG-10 gold steel core that forms the cutting edge and features eight layers of softer stainless steel either side of this. The core is very hard which allows the knife to be sharpened to a razor sharp edge. The sides of the blade are ground to expose the different layers of steel making up the blade creating the suminagashi pattern.

As each blade is hand made, the specific suminagashi pattern is unique to that blade. The blades are mirror polished to further enhance the effect. For safety in use, when the blade is folded out of the handle a cam mechanism locks the blade in the open position. This stops the blade from folding in on itself during use and is unlocked using a thumb lever on the handle.

The handle is brushed nickel with solid cocobolo inserts and adds weight to the knife giving it a very positive feel in use without it feeling heavy and uncomfortable. For ease of storage, this knife comes supplied in an embossed full grain leather pouch with belt loop. Overall length 175mm. Made in Japan.

It is widely recognised that Japan offers some of the world's finest knives and cutting tools. The sword makers to the Samurai were the very best in their trade and their knowledge of metals and metal working has been handed down through the generations of master blacksmiths and is still in use today. These skills and knowledge of materials combine to produce blades that are harder, thinner, stronger and sharper than most western style pocket knives and for this reason Japanese pocket knives are truly outstanding in their quality and performance.

Absolutely beautiful knife, locking mechanism is extremely precise (a friends words not mine). Lovely patterns in the blade, which is very sharp right out of the box. A pleasure to use for anything & it'll probably outlive me. Buy one.

I am constantly amazed by the ability of the Japanese master blacksmiths and this knife is testament to their ability. The blade is absolutely stunning with its multi layered patterning and the whole knife is a real thing of beauty. Even the leather storage pouch screams quality. Worth every penny.

Brian Hunter

This knife is so beautiful, it is almost a shame to use but when you do use it it cuts like a dream. The leather pouch is a welcome addition too.
