Product Details

In Japan, this gardening tool is known as a hori-hori knife. Hori means dig and although digging is not the first thing you would do with a knife, when you use a hor-hori knife, the reason for the name becomes apparent. More like a knife shaped multi tool, this knife will replace several different tools in your gardening arsenal. The hand forged high carbon steel blade is much thicker than that of an ordinary cutting knife and with the gentle side to side curve of the blade the knife makes an ideal replacement for a trowel. Its shape makes it perfect for digging and scooping. Serrated down one side, the knife may also be used for cutting root balls and trimming root systems when transplanting and repotting plants. The blade features a sharp point allowing it to penetrate deep into even very hard or compacted soil with ease. The Japanese white oak handle is contoured for a comfortable yet secure grip even with gardening gloves. This is a wonderful tool and once you use it, it will be the first tool you reach for everytime. The blade measures 170mm in length and the knife has an overall length of 300mm. Comes supplied in a soft plastic sheath. Age Restricted Product - It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase this product. By placing an order for this product, you confirm you are 18 years of age or over.

Tool looks OK (better in the online picture!) and will do a job. I agree with the other comments on the sheath, but I'll be not wearing it (just use it to store the knife). Tool itself is sturdy enough though - functional not aesthetically pleasing

Thomas Morgan

This looks nice online but when it arrives it looks a bit cheap and nasty. The sheath is a horrible plastic thing like a cheap toy. I bought it as a gift but really it looks too naff to give away. The knife is probably perfectly functional if you don't care how it looks but I fear you need the sheath if you want to avoid unintentionally castrating yourself.

Peter Neale

Bought as gifts for keen gardeners, look to be very good once you get over the fact that they look like something Rambo would carry. If I can work out how to update a review I'll add the recipients comments after Christmas

Daniel Meek

I bought this for my wife, and she's delighted. It has that balance, efficiency, and elegance typical of Japanese tools. Clearly this will be a very seriously useful tool but I'm giving it 4 stars because the sheath, though well finished is a flimsy plastic one. This is a tool that needs to be responibly used and safely stored. It really needs a wooden or a heavy leather sheath.

Knowing my love of gardening my daughter bought me this garden knife for Mothers Day. I love the design on the sheath and I can use it for a variety of gardening tasks, will have a look through the rest of your gardening products
