Product Details

This quick release vice is cast, machined and assembled by the world's leading and largest vice manufacturer, who have been established since 1950. The body of the vice is precision CNC machined from solid grey iron castings, a material recognised for its wear resistance and high compressive strength.

The vice has a class leading clamping force of 19000N for assured workholding. The 265mm wide front jaw is fractionally tapered toward the rear jaw, so that when under clamping pressure the jaws become parallel for positive non slip clamping. The lead screw is made from hardened and tempered steel and features a buttress thread that ensures fast, smooth and controlled movement. Buttress threads are stronger in shear than any other power thread, combining the high efficiency of a square thread with the high strength of a V thread.

The advantage of this quick release vice is that by depressing the front trigger, the lead screw disengages from the cast nut allowing you to slide the jaw back and forth with one hand. Once you workpiece is position, release the trigger and clamp up using the tommy bar.

Both front and rear jaws are pre-drilled to accept wood sub fences to protect the surface of the workpiece and the front jaw features a height adjustable dog for clamping against a bench dog on your workbench. The castings of the vice are finished in an epoxy powder paint that is extremely hard wearing, chip and corrosion resistant.

These quick release vices have a lifetime warranty and in the event that the vice fails due to a material or manufacturing defect it will be replaced free of charge. This is a premium quality, premium performance quick release vice that can be found in professional woodworkers workshops worldwide.

We recently invested in six of these vices for our wood shop and we are delighted with the quality. The other reviewer said it's a two man job to fit, we dispute that as we needed three men each time. At 20 plus kilos and over 1/2 metre long they are very heavy and bulky. Two men to hold in position, one man to add the coach bolts and tighten up. The jaw movement is very smooth even when you fully pull out the front jaw to its maximum. Would we buy again. Yes no hesitation.

I bought this vice to replace the wood vice that came as standard on my Sjoberg bench. Although the wood vice did most tasks perfectly well it tended to slip when working on long workpieces when I was routing or sanding. The new vice is very well engineered and has so far performed to every task I have given it. It is very heavy and I had to ask my neighbour to assist when initially mounting it. Its definitely a two man job. The quick release is simple to use allowing you to hold the wood with one hand and push the jaw into position with the other, then tightening off with the tommy bar. On arrival it is coated in grease to protect the machined components from rusting. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Big improvement on my previous vice, very happy. Buy cheap, buy twice as they say. I must say the dark paint job gives it that professional look and has managed to withstand the use and abuse I've given it thus far. Meets the high standards I've come to expect from Rutlands

Much better quick release mechanism than other vices I've tried. Others tend to be too stiff and the action too jittery. Added some MDF face plates and now this thing works like a charm.
