Product Details

The new Xact series of chucks are the latest advancement in work holding systems for the discerning woodturner. This 4" chuck is precision engineered and beautifully balanced offering a superior performance combined with rock-solid holding power and excellent load bearing capability. The design of this Xact chuck ensures that the workpiece sits as close as possible to the headstock therefore reducing load on the main headstock bearing and minimising vibration when turning.

Xact chucks are specifically designed so the jaws will cut into the wood to provide high tear-out strength, unlike some other woodturning chucks that use engineering jaw profiles which crush the wood fibres and do not securely grip the workpiece. Measuring 95mm in diameter, this chuck can be used on all sizes of lathe from large capacity professional lathes through to mini lathes. The chuck body is threaded to 1" x 8tpi and comes with a precision machined reducer to allow for use with lathes with a 3/4" x 16tpi spindle thread. Optional thread adaptors are available to suit alternate lathe spindle sizes.

Engineered from medium tensile steel, this chuck is strong and durable and features a precision machined scroll mechanism and high ratio gearing for a strong grip irrespective of work piece size. The jaws open and close using a T-handled key, allowing for one handed operation, leaving one hand free to support and balance your workpiece. The chuck comes with standard dovetail jaws and a woodscrew allowing for pen turning, spindle turning, bowl turning, goblets and candlesticks and much more.

This is without doubt the finest chuck we have ever offered and represents exceptional value for money. If you're looking for the finest chuck on the market look no further. A host of optional chuck jaws are available, so as your woodturning skills progress the chuck can progess with you onto new turning projects. Highly Recommended.

I recently acquired a second hand Record No 3 lathe with a swivel headstock so that I could turn large diameter bowls. I bought this chuck as it appeared excellent value for money and I new I could return it if I was not satisfied. When it arrived I screwed the chuck onto the spindle and used my Starret dial gauge to see how true the rotation was. It was less than 1/10" of a thousandth of an inch. this gave me confidence as I would be turning up to 24" bowls and any out of true would cause major issues the larger the diameter. I have used the chuck on five project to date and I am delighted with the performance. I have sprayed the inner case insert with WD40 so that every time I put the chuck to bed it is corrosion protected. Good purchase.

Super chuck kit. Does exactly what it says on the can.

Fantastic chuck. Every thing you need in one case. Good build quality, good finish on the jaws and runs true. Be careful though not to over tighten the jaw screws - they are a difficult to undo if over tightened. I recommend

I looked at the Nova, Axminster and the Record but this one offered far more jaws than the others at considerably less money. So far it has not let me down. It seems well engineered and the jaws open and close smoothly each time. I've turned a goblet with a 5mm diameter stem so that should tell you a lot. I definitely would buy again.

Great piece of kit. I am using mine on a Record No 3 lathe. So far I have turned a 14" bowl and it worked a treat even when initially roughing out. Runs true and I like the fact that no dust or debri can enter the rear of the chuck.
