Product Details

Based in China, Qiangsheng Luban are experts in their field of hand plane manufacture. Using a combination of traditional and modern manufacturing processes along with tried and trusted designs, they produce planes that offer exceptional quality. Since their arrival in 2005 they have established themselves as the serious alternative to the premium plane brands from North America. Their attention to detail in the finishing process is in our opinion second to none and the weight and balance ratio is of the highest level. Qiangsheng Luban planes are an exceptionally popular choice with discerning woodworkers and cabinetmakers throughout the world.

This is the largest of the three shoulder planes from Qiangsheng and due to its extra bulk and mass, it offers increased stability and registration when working up to an edge. Many woodworkers find that this shoulder plane is the easiest to control and use. Based on the original Edward Preston and Sons' plane design you will find no better plane for trimming the shoulder of a tenon to perfection or for precise rebating work.

The key features of the Edward Preston design were retained, including a narrow body, a slightly proud blade designed to clean out corners, side faces square to the sole and a precise flat bottom. A new adjustable toe design enhances the original and is used to control the throat opening in order to minimise tear out on end grain. Manufactured from stress relieved ductile steel, the body is machined square and flat, and the blade is made from A2 tool steel which has been hardened to HRC60. This gives the blade strength and the ability to take a keen edge. The 15 degree low bed angle combined with the 25 degree blade bevel gives a cutting angle of 40 degrees for exceptional end grain cutting performance. The No 93 has a sole length of 210mm, a width of 25mm, a body height of 95mm and a weight of 1.8kg. This is an exceptional plane.
