FULL DESCRIPTION
This bench pillar drill is powered by a 500W, high torque induction motor and has a 9 speed, belt driven, range from 400 to 2500rpm, running on three stepped pulleys. A specially selected drive belt results in low noise and extremely low levels of vibration. As a safety feature the belt cover is fitted with a micro-switch which ensures the power is disconnected when it is open. The main headstock is CNC machined from a grey iron casting and features a highly accurate quill and spindle assembly to ensure precise, consistent drilling of metals, woods and plastics. The main spindle has 50mm of travel and is fitted with a precision three jaw 'Jacobs' style chuck which accepts shank diameters from 3mm to 16mm. The operating handle is fitted with three soft hand grips and there is a conveniently positioned drilling depth control.

The upper table is machined from cast iron and features machined slots to accept drill press vices. The table tilts through 45 degrees for drilling at angles and can be swung out of the way to allow for workpieces up to 330mm tall to be placed between the lower table and the chuck. Standing 610mm tall and weighing over 21kg this is a very solid, very precise bench pillar drill that is designed for professional workshop use. ©

Great bit of kit

I purchased this drill when it was on offer and I have been pleasantly surprised. It seems to be solid and well made and doesn’t take too long to put together. I think it will be perfect for all the basics and I imagine it will last many years to come. Instructions were ok but possibly could be improved as they seemed to jump around a little. Would definitely recommend. Thanks

Great addition to the workshop

As you expect from Rutland, this is a good quality piece of kit and a welcome addition to my workshop. Well packaged and easy to assemble it’s already been put to good use. The motor is smooth and very low noise, changing speed is manual via belts but easy to do, so very happy with this purchase, it’s good value and much better quality than some others I have looked at.

I chose this drill press for its small size, price, and good reviews. As mentioned elsewhere in the reviews, it arrives flat packed and is easy to assemble. Once adjusted it is quiet running and drills accurately. I needed to adjust the micro switch position in the gear cover as it was making intermittent contact, however, despite this, once setup I think it is an excellent piece of equipment and fulfils my needs.

I had been waiting for the day that this drill was on sale and my patience was rewarded. I can't fault it for the money. I bought it on sale but at full price I would have been just as happy. It does what I expect, which is to say it drills holes straight! I have now drilled countless holes for kitchen cabinet style cup hinges and once I set the depth correctly it was child's play and definitely saved me time over a well known US companies jig...Feels solid and changing speed was easy. Very modest footprint for my small workshop but really punches above it's weight.Like all of these type of drills, the area for workpieces is small so copying something from YouTube will improve that but I really can't find any fault. I had a question for customer support and received a helpful reply in around 1 hour.Once again Rutlands has delivered.

Speed is critical!!!!! The size of the required hole and the material into which it is being drilled determine the optimum speed needed. Gobsmakingly Obvious statements but both impossible to achieve with my old Nu-Tool 3 speed pillar drill.Up until now I have never managed to find a machine that would do what I wanted at a price I could afford. I HAVE NOW !!Since it arrived I have thrown everything I can think of at it and it has delivered every time.Yes there are machines out there that can perform as well or better BUT you have to pay the price.Value for money this is unbeatable.
