FULL DESCRIPTION

This Japanese carving knife is made by a master craftsman in Japan exclusively for Rutlands®. An important part of any carver's tool collection, carving knives can be used in tandem with chisels and gouges for roughing out and fine detailing work or on their own for whittling and chip carving. The blades are made from hardened high carbon A2 tool steel which is perfect for carving knives as it renowned for not chipping, cracking or breaking during heavy use.

The steel will hone to a razor sharp edge that has a long edge retention meaning you can spend more time carving and less time sharpening. The steel is also very tough and corrosion resistant. The sharpened and honed double bevel blade is mounted in a solid Japanese white oak handle that is shaped to fit perfectly in the hand for ultimate cutting control. ©

Incredibly easy to use and fantastically sharp! Even for a newcomer like me it makes carving easy.

This item is BEAUTIFUL.

This item is BEAUTIFUL. I will often just stare at it marvelling at its simple beauty. I have the curved knife. It is very strong. This knife will do all you ask and more. It can carve or whittle anything I used so for

I purchased all 5 of these after deliberating on which I should get to start carving.

I purchased all 5 of these after deliberating on which I should get to start carving. I have to say the quality is exceptional as you would expect. they are extremely sharp and remain so requiring only a strop every now and again. I looked at Pfeil, Flexcut, Stubai, Ashley Iles . Do yourself a favour buy these you will not be disappointed.

I've had this knife for a couple of days.

I've had this knife for a couple of days. I was looking for a good quality chip-carving style knife with a shorter blade than my Mora 120 - so there's more control over the tip, and not so many breakages as with a scalpel or craft knife. Very pleased when I got it - shave-sharp out of the packing. Relatively wide and shallow Scandi-style grind right down to the edge (over half the width of the blade) which means you can get the whole knife quite close to the wood for shallow cuts, and it should be easy to run across a stone when necessary. There's lots of control, with a blade shape that seems to really suit me. Tried it with basswood, pear, and poplar projects - no problems - and didn't reach for the scalpel once, even for stop cuts. Stropped it a couple of times. Stayed sharp, no signs of weakness yet. It's not a cheap knife, but so far I think it's good value. Happy.
